nice cup of tea {Yogi}

Most of us learned a while back that girls develop differently from boys.  As much as we love our husbands, our boyfriends, our sons, and our fathers, we have different needs on several levels.   Most obviously, and what I’m talking about to you now, is not just physicality, but also emotion and mood.

I’ll say it; I’m pretty moody every now and then. Who isn’t? This in mind, I was happy when I discovered that Yogi is now making a line of tea to meet women’s specific needs. The line includes Energy, Moon Cycle, Mother To Be, Nursing Support, and Raspberry Leaf Teas.
Although I am not expecting a baby, I’ve come to expect other stresses… taxes, car troubles, tantrums; you never know what’s going to pop up.  A good cup of herbal tea is a great source of relaxation. On a stressful evening, I tried the Mother To Be which has a lemon-minty-anisette flavor. I have to say, it left me pretty relaxed.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, as mothers, we tend to run around like Energizer bunnies hopping from one mission to the next without much of a break.  I normally fuel up on coffee (lots and lots of coffee) or green tea. Instead, I tried the Woman’s Energy tea, which contains dong quai, a Chinese herb of the parsley family said to support reproductive organs and regulate our cycles.  It also contains nettle leaf, known for its energizing qualities. This tea gave me a slight boost without the caffeine jitters.

I was fascinated to learn that the roots of Yogi teas can be traced back to 1969, when Yogi Bhajan started teaching yoga and holistic living in America. He served a spiced Ayurvedic tea to his students, who were inspired to brew their own. In 1984 Yogi tea was founded.  As a little shout out to their roots and beliefs, each box shows a yoga move related to the goal of the tea, i.e. relaxation or balance.
Yogi teas are widely available at health food stores and other retail outlets, as well as online.

Special thanks to Yogi for providing a samples for review purposes.
