Valentine’s Day Date: Romantic Nature Hike
I’m sharing my Valentine’s Day Date: Romantic Nature Hike featuring BROOKSIDE Crunchy Clusters, wine and cheese board as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #DISCOVERBROOKSIDE
I have to admit that I have never been the typical red roses, movie, dinner on V-day type gal. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE going on date night with my husband, but for Valentine’s Day, that just all seems so…commercial. I much prefer a more “natural” date, something I would enjoy doing alone but with my partner, even better.
While many of you are buried in snow currently, I’m basking in the sun in 70-80 degree weather. Don’t hate on me because I will get my comeuppance in the summer when the heat soars to 120. This is peak time for me and my family to enjoy the great outdoors, so when I got to thinking about my Valentine’s Day plans, a nice nature walk with romantic picnic came to mind. But, what to pack?
* Dark Chocolate
I’m basing my V-Day nature hike pack around one very VERY special product. BROOKSIDE Crunchy Clusters – have you tried them? This was my first experience with them and holy smokes are they addictive! I literally had to put them on the top-most pantry shelf so I wouldn’t scarf them down in handfuls. BROOKSIDE Crunchy Clusters is a delicious blend of crispy multigrains and fruit-flavored centers with a smooth dark chocolate covering. It is the most scrumptious chocolate snack ever… and I generally am a solid chocolate only type of girl. The crunchy texture is so satisfying. Dangerous, I tell you!!
This is a no-brainer, right? Not only is it Valentine’s Day, but why pass up the chance to pair wine with chocolate? Choose a dessert wine, a Port or a Vin Santo being my favorite options, to compliment both the dark chocolate and the berries. I found and tried two bottles at Trader Joe’s that were perfection, both under $10!
If there is wine, there has to be cheese. That’s a rule. Now, I live my life dairy-free but come special occasions (and always involving wine) I break down and eat delicious cheese choc full of dairy. I’m a rebel, you know it. Since we are already bringing Port, we need to bring a cheese that will compliment. Port requires a cheese that can cut through the sweetness – think SALTY and NUTTY (and maybe a bit stinky). Stilton, a blue cheese, is the classic pairing, but you could go with Parmesan-Reggiano or Montgomery Cheddar if you aren’t an adventurous cheeser… the salt level will pair lovely. Throw in some salty nuts and sweet dried fruits and you’ve got a meal!
* Blanket + Journal
Maybe it’s just the writer in me, but I carry a notebook with me everywhere I go.
