I love to detox.  Once I was aware of toxins and heavy metals inside my body, I couldn’t stop wanting to get them out.  Toxins are everywhere: in the food and water we ingest, in the air we breathe and in the medications we take. Left in our bodies, toxins from the environment can cause serious harm and illness.  Chances are, if you are feeling under the weather, you are toxic.

While I love to juice cleanse, soup cleanse and create health shots, detox baths have quickly become my favorite form of detoxification.  There are many different detox bath recipes out there, but all center around common goals – to open pores, extract toxins and soak in beneficial minerals and nutrients. For my ultimate detox bath, I’ve taken ingredients from various recipes that I find most advantageous and most stress-relieving.

You must follow a basic formula to truly detox and cleanse your body of toxins.  Our bodies are incredible and have the ability to naturally detoxify, but you need to enhance its ability and encourage it along.

  1. First of all, start with a hydrated body – drink plenty of water prior to your soak.
  2. Fill tub with hot hot hot water (careful not hot enough to burn).  You want to S.W.E.A.T. baby as much as possible as that is one way your body releases toxins.
  3. Add 2 cups epsom salt or 1 cup magnesium flakes (more easily absorbed) + 1/2 cup Dead Sea salt.
  4. If you do not have filtered water, you must neutralize the chemicals – mainly the chlorine – in your bath or they will be absorbed into your skin (ick!).  Add 1 cup of baking soda or 1/2 tsp Vitamin C crystals.  I’m allergic to baking powder in high doses so I use Vitamin C.  Let the water sit for 5 minutes.
  5. Add in 1/2 cup Bentonite Clay.  This healing clay actually pulls out toxins like heavy metals through the skin.
  6. Add in an 3 Tbl oil, coconut oil being my choice.  Oil will keep your expensive essential oils from sticking to the sides of the tub.
  7. After adding a base oil, add in your essential oil(s) of choice.  6-10 drops should do the trick.
  8. The everything else phase.  Add in the rest.  I’ll get into my “rest” below.
  9. Soak for 20 minutes.  Get out of the bath slowly as you might feel lightheaded.  Drink more water and go to bed – you will feel exhausted but like a million bucks in the morning!

Now that your skin is clean and supple, it is time to buff your feet to beautiful perfection.  Make sure your skin is dry.  Take the Amopé™ Pedi Perfect™ Electronic Foot File and slowly but continuously moving, buff the hard skin on your feet – you know, the places that a winter of neglect has created, heels especially!

After using this handy gadget, give your feet a good rinse/wipe.  Apply the Amopé™ Foot Cream to feet and up your legs.  This thick moisturizer sinks into skin easily.  It is formulated with vitamin B3 and oils to keep your feet sandal-ready, so bring on the beach! I have naturally dry skin and also live in the desert, so I am picky when it comes to my moisturizers.  This one gets the job done!!

When thinking about the mother in your life (including yourself!) consider giving a gift of health and soft feet!  These detox baths can be packed quite lovely – just never ever let the clay touch metal or it will absorb that metal.  Choose plastic or glass containers for this soak!  Pair the detox bath with Amopé products for a true spa treatment any mom can enjoy!!

Ultimate Detox Bath with bentonite clay, kelp and dead sea salt #AmopeLovesMoms

The star of the show is bentonite clay, which contains more than 70 trace minerals.  I suggest you look into this healing clay if you have not already.  I use it not only in my detox baths, but also as a facial or body mask and… I drink it!  1 tsp in about 8 ounces of water down the hatch every day.  Bentonite clay pulls heavy metals out of your body with a simple explanation.  The clay carries a negative charge and toxins carry a positive.  Toxins are attracted to the clay and the clay essentially pulls them from your body – amazing, right?  This is a very powerful event, so be cautious. Limit your soak to 20 minutes or you may become nauseated, develop a headache, or endure other detox symptoms.

The next star is magnesium, in the form of epsom salts or magnesium flakes.  The flakes are more easily absorbed so I go with them.  Most of us are magnesium deficient which brings about a whole host of terrible symptoms, one being anxiety.  You can take supplements (I do) but for maximum absorption, a detox bath is the way to go, especially if you are currently feeling a lost of stress/anxiety.

everything else

A detox bath works because it opens your pores wide open.  The heat from the bath not only makes you sweat, but opens your pores.  Add in the next ingredient – freshly grated or powdered ginger – to kick it up another notch!  I add 1/2 inch knob grated to sweat out even more toxins.

Another “everything else” ingredient I add is 1/2 C sea kelp powder, which binds to toxins and draws them out, much like bentonite clay.  Imagine how powerful these are together!  Sea kelp is loaded with Omega-3s and other skin-nourishing and anti-aging nutrients.

With my epsom salts, I also add in 1/2 C Dead Sea salt, which is unlike any other sea salt in the world.  While most salts are simply sodium chloride, Dead Sea salt contains very little of that.  It is comprised instead of minerals taken from the mud, minerals that stimulate circulation and treat afflictions from acne to arthritis.

All of these ingredients together create an Ultimate Detox Bath.  Make sure your products are high quality, especially your essential oils, or don’t use them at all.  Essentials oils should be medical grade.  Combine it with the Amopé™ Pedi Perfect™ Electronic Foot File and Foot Cream for soft and beautiful feet!

Purchase Amopé™  products at Target for $39.99. In addition to the the blue Pedi Perfect™ Electronic Foot File, Target will also have a pink gadget that is limited edition, while supplies last!  There is also a Cartwheel offer where you can: buy 1 gadget, get a FREE $5 Target gift card from 5/3 – 5/9.  Keep in the know by liking Amopé™ on Facebook.

I’ve never done a detox bath before, but what a neat idea. I know my feet – and the rest of me – could use some pampering like this! #client
