a thrilling summer read

As summer’s end is looming and the start of busy back-to-school season is approaching, I’m squeezing in one or two last summer reads.  Since I was a little girl, my happy place at home is curled up with a soft blanket and a good book.  As a working mom of two, I don’t get the chance to read as often as I’d like to – so only the ones that excite me the most make the list.  Next up? The psychological thriller, The Marriage Pact by Michelle Richmond.

Summer is the perfect time to catch up on your reading list.  We have been off on adventures a good portion of this summer – at the beach, at the campground, at the lake and lots of miles logged in the car.  My daughter and I both have been ravenously reading throughout our excursions and I don’t want it to end!  A great summer book can be enjoyed at home too, with a morning cup of coffee or a late afternoon cocktail.

I just started The Marriage Pact two days ago and I seriously cannot put it down.  Thrilling, page-turning psychological reads are my guilty pleasure and favorite type of book to read in my spare (what’s that?) time.  If a book doesn’t pull me in right away, I have a hard time sticking with it, but The Marriage Pact drew me in from paragraph #1.  I have a feeling that I’ll be finishing this one pretty fast.

If you loved Gone Girl and Girl on the Train like I did, you’re going to love this book.  So, I know you’re looking for a synopsis now – Sarah, what is the book about?!

Newlyweds Alice and Jake are a picture-perfect couple. Alice, once a singer in a well-known rock band, is now a successful lawyer. Jake is a partner in an up-and-coming psychology practice. Their life together holds endless possibilities. After receiving an enticing wedding gift from one of Alice’s prominent clients, they decide to join an exclusive and mysterious group known only as The Pact.

The goal of The Pact seems simple: to keep marriages happy and intact. And most of its rules make sense. Always answer the phone when your spouse calls. Exchange thoughtful gifts monthly. Plan a trip together once per quarter. . . .

Never mention The Pact to anyone.

Alice and Jake are initially seduced by the glamorous parties, the sense of community, their widening social circle of like-minded couples.

And then one of them breaks the rules.

The young lovers are about to discover that for adherents to The Pact, membership, like marriage, is for life. And The Pact will go to any lengths to enforce that rule.

For Jake and Alice, the marriage of their dreams is about to become their worst nightmare.
