Sweet Filthy Boy {hot books for moms}

Happy Mother’s Day to us — Sweet Filthy Boy, from author Christina Lauren, hits the shelves May 13th.  Christina Lauren, combined pen name of BFFs, Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings, New York Times, USA Today, and #1 international bestselling authors of the Beautiful Bastard series, have captured us once again with a new series — Wild Seasons.  I had the tantalizing opportunity to read the first of the series, Sweet Filthy Boy, a devilishly enjoyable read that is perfect for your summer to-read list.

sweet filthy boy book review

This is new literary territory for me, as I typically opt for crime thrillers or heart-wrenching memoirs.  I haven’t read the Beautiful Bastard series yet but after tearing through Sweet Filthy Boy, it is at the top of my reading list (and already on my nightstand).  I was hesitant from the get-go that I wouldn’t get my clever writing fix from a novel filled with such hot and steamy scenes… I was wrong.  Christina Lauren creates an easy read that plays with both regular (read:boring?) fiction and romance novel in such a delicious and addictive way.

I was trapped early on and found myself constantly apologizing to my husband — oh, I’m sorry hun, can you grab the baby from nap and feed and bathe him?  I’m reading this book… for work…   A couple hours later I would tear myself away and bookmark my spot.  I would think about it constantly.  That is how it went until I finished the book and now I am drooling for the next of the series.

One-night stands are supposed to be with someone convenient, or wickedly persuasive, or regrettable. They aren’t supposed to be with someone like him.

But after a crazy Vegas weekend celebrating her college graduation—and terrified of the future path she knows is a cop-out—Mia Holland makes the wildest decision of her life: follow Ansel Guillaume—her sweet, filthy fling—to France for the summer and just…play.

When feelings begin to develop behind the provocative roles they take on, and their temporary masquerade adventures begin to feel real, Mia will have to decide if she belongs in the life she left because it was all wrong, or in the strange new one that seems worlds away.

Ansel.  This was a top name my husband and I had on our baby name list and I am suddenly SO happy we didn’t go with it.  I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy this book. = )  Ansel is a compelling character: hot, French, thoughtful and rich.  His downsides are he’s a lawyer and has a past… and a bit hard to read.

The main character, Mia, I was at odds with throughout the book.  While I was always rooting for her, sometimes she drove me a bit crazy — as would any realistic character.  As human beings, we make a lot of questionable choices, especially when it comes to relationships… and how was she supposed to flawlessly navigate this Ansel character?  Oh, what an interesting dynamic they have!

As a summer read, Sweet Filthy Boy is perfect.  I lapped up every word, dying to read the next.  The sex scenes are hot yet the storyline is equally enthralling.  I couldn’t get enough.  I would love to get into details, but, ya know, spoilers.  JUST READ IT.  Trust me.

Purchase Sweet Filthy Boy for your beach bag this summer.
