how to survive Black Friday {shopping}

Remain calm.  It’s Black Friday.  Yes, it’s the biggest shopping day/weekend of the year and if want to make it through unscathed you are going to need to prepare.  To avoid having an anxiety attack as you wait in never-ending lines and funnel into stores via massive hoards of strangers — prepare accordingly.

First off — have a plan of attack.  Make a list and check it twice.  Know which items are the hottest and likely to fly off the shelves first.

Wear comfortable clothing, especially shoes so you can go the distance.  Today is not the day to worry about looking cute in 5 inch heels.

Pack your purse for the long haul.  Bring headphones so you can tune out the loud crowds and keep calm during the hectic shopping scramble.  Pack water and an energizing snack to avoid that mid-sale slump.

Don’t forget your patience.  Yes, there are many deals to be had today but let’s not forget to be humane to others.  In the end, it is just a sale – door-buster it may be – but just a sale.  Don’t shove and fight your way to that last Elsa toy, and be kind to the employees.  They have likely been working this holiday weekend since the wee hours.  Keep calm — there is always Cyber Monday.

Walk out the door with a strict budget in mind.  Know what you want to/ can afford to spend today and plan for deals all weekend long.  Set boundaries for yourself so you don’t overspend.

Bring a credit card with Price Protection (and cash back doesn’t hurt).  Always get the best deal by shopping with a card that will refund you money if you find a better deal.

Shop online.  You can avoid the mania of the day by checking online first.  Many of the deals are already available online and you can just have the items shipped to you.  Check out Office Depot’s deal center for Office Depot OfficeMax’s lowest prices ever — amazing deals and free shipping!  Don’t forget to #ElfYourself while on the site – a perfect way to pass the time waiting to check out!

What kind of Black Friday shopper are you?  Or are you a Cyber Monday type of person?
