natural sun protection for kids {Kiss My Face}

The first thing I do when I learn of a new sunscreen is head over to EWG’s Safe Sunscreen Guide and plug it in.  So when Kiss My Face Kids wanted me to review their 100% natural mineral sun sticks, I had high hopes for a good rating.  It scored a 1, which puts it into the best category – low hazard, a perfect fit for feature.

If you’ve been following my posts for the past few days, you already know that my family just relocated from Los Angeles back to our beloved desert of Palm Springs.  Being a hot-weather junkie who can’t stand humidity, the desert is my ideal living location.  I love everything about it, well except for those 115-120 degree summer days that light the sand and stone on fire (not to mention your skin).

Living in the desert, sunscreen is a mandatory, year-round thing.  My daughter wakes up in the A.M., I spray her down with SPF and she heads outside — 365 days of the year.  While it is easiest to use an SPF spray for her body, she absolutely hates her face to be sprayed.  Even with her eyes shut, it seeps in and she freaks out, naturally.  The face (don’t forget the ears) is protected painlessly with a sunscreen stick, like Kiss My Face’s 100% Natural Sun Stick with SPF 30.  It is so easy to use, your kids can do it themselves.

To make it more fun, these Sun Sticks go on pink or blue — and stay that way!  As the parent, you can easily see if you missed any spots, which, in the desert, is key.  If you’d rather the stick dry more transparent, then white is the one for you.  That’s no sign of overheating – my daughter’s face is pink from the Kiss My Face Sun Stick!

Kiss My Face Kids Mineral Sun Stick SPF 30 goes on smooth and fast, covering a kid’s face in mere minutes.  The most minimal amount of time spent prepping kids for the sun, the better.  They always have ants in their pants to get outside.  It also takes very little to thoroughly cover a face, meaning one stick will last you awhile!

This natural, water-resistant mineral sun block protects even the most sensitive of skin without irritating.  It contains beeswax to soften skin, cocoa butter to moisturize and soothe, and natural minerals to block UVA/UVB rays naturally.

We’ve put this stick to the most extreme testing – direct, high noon sun in the reflective pool in 110 degree weather.  My daughter’s face doesn’t have even a hint of pink, well besides when she is wearing her sun stick.  It is just that though, a hint.  I was worried the color would be too much but it is sheer and really adorable.  My make-up obsessed daughter thinks of it as all-over blush. = )  This stick makes sunscreen fun for kids and it gets the job done.

    My kids love sunscreen sticks, and their friends are always borrowing them because they are so easy to use.

    I always use the natural sunscreen on the kids faces. Don’t always do it on the rest of them but faces are so sensitive! I have tried the Kiss My Face washes but never the sunscreen.

    I like that this is water-resistant and won’t irritate my sensitive skin.

    I love sun sticks! They make it so much easier to apply to wiggly kids. I’m glad this is a 1 on EWG’s scale, I’ll have to get this next time! (Great pics, btw)
