a Christmas full of firsts {MOMents}

It’s December 28th and I’m trying to get our lives back on track.  The holidays have a special way of throwing everything into a tizzy; this year feeling like an all-out tailspin.  It was my first Christmas with two kids, meaning double the effort, double the presents, double the stress.  But, double the fun and satisfaction afterwards, so I guess it evens out, right?  This year was filled with new MOMents, lots of firsts for our family and memories I will cherish forever.

Like I said, this was my little one’s first Christmas and it was just amazing to watch his expressions from start to finish.  As an 11 month old, Gabriel was running the gamut of emotions.  He was overwhelmed by all of the excitement at first, his 7 year old sister flying though gifts, wrapping paper soaring past him.

He just sat there and watched her, eyebrows arched, drool dripping down.

Soon, he dug right in though and was climbing over and rooting through the Christmas piles.

…and falling off them.

And then at some magical point, they we’re working together, opening each others’ gifts, totally in sync and having their first Christmas as siblings.  It was a Sprout MOMent and I just sat back and drank it in.

Christmas Day settled into that familiar routine of don’t speak to me-I’m playing my new video games with my daughter, but the unfamiliar was with Gabriel.  He’s just recently mastered standing on his own and we have all been holding our breath for those first real steps.  He’s taken one here and there, mostly leaps of faith (literally) but no sequence.  As I watched him go bonkers over his big boy toys, I silently urged him to step away from them and just walk.  He was so sure-footed the whole day, standing for what seemed like 30 minutes at a time, pounding away on new toddler-style toys.

Day faded into a desert pink sky night and we all settled in for some TV time.  And then, like no big deal at all, Gabriel let go and took some steps.  It was brief and he’s got some fine tuning to do, but there it was.  If only that darn blanket wasn’t there, who knows how far he would’ve gone!  It was a MOMent like none other.  First steps on Christmas day!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season filled with new MOMents, those funny, sentimental and just downright priceless moments that moms experience during the hectic holiday season.  Create your own MOMent at Sprout and browse the ones from others.  Choose from a variety of frames and templates, and don’t forget to share on your social media!

    Oh, precious!! Yes, having 2 is way more than twice the work of having just one. But for moments like your present-opening-scenario, it’s wonderful. My son took his first steps while we were in DisneyWorld, making it truly magical for us! As for a holiday MOMent…..mine was probably when my kids proudly learned to GIVE rather than looking for their own presents.
