Perfect Prep Machine for perfect bottles {Tommee Tippee}

It’s a hot button issue.  Breast vs. Bottle. We’re not here to debate, but rather support each other and learn about really stellar products to make life a little better.

Breast milk is best but for whatever reason, and there are a myriad of reasons, many moms are preparing formula bottles on a daily basis.  From the latest statistics I could find, less than 20% of moms are exclusively breastfeeding at 6 months although it is on the rise!  Exclusively breastfeeding for a year plus is a really amazing feat, one that I admire and envy, but its not a reality for many.  My support group of mommas with babies born with cleft lip and palate is full of shame-riddled women who are embarrassed to admit they supplement or solely use formula, when physically their babies just couldn’t latch on.  When did we all become so judgmental?

Preparing a bottle of formula isn’t rocket science, but when it is 4 AM and it’s already the second middle-of-the-night feeding, and baby is screaming because he needs a warm bottle now, scooping, pouring, mixing and heating is an arduous task.  Bottle warmers take for-ever. Stop adding unnecessary stress and stop making inconsistent bottles.  Tommee Tippee, reigning bottle and breast champion, wants to make the bottles for you with the Perfect Prep Machine (sent to me for review).  This is a first of its kind!

I’ve done battle with bottle warmers on the market, my last one ending up pitched into the dumpster in a fit of sleep-deprived rage.  While the Perfect Prep Machine is not a warmer, it does make the perfect warm bottle of formula — in TWO minutes, eliminating the need for a warmer if you are a formula mom.

A guaranteed lifesaver for new parents, the Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature Perfect Prep Machine takes all the guesswork out of preparing bottles.  Each and every bottle will be the perfect mix of formula:water and the ideal temperature (98.6°).  It is so easy to use even a first time mom can do it at 4 AM without any exasperation.

One of the best features is the included water filter.  I don’t know about you, but after awhile I get pretty sick of buying bottled water for my baby.  The only filtered water in my house comes out cold, not an ideal temperature for a bottle, so we always had to have a pantry full of baby-approved, room temperature water.  The tap water here in the desert is so hard it comes out looking like Alka-Seltzer so that isn’t an option (yes, it fizzes!).  Now I can just fill the Perfect Prep hopper and walk away.

Note here that the water in the reservoir must stay below 77° or the overheated light will come on, rendering the machine useless.  I was so frustrated with this safety feature until I figured out how to solve the problem.  If your temperature light comes on simply add cold water or even ice cubes and the light will go off.  Like I said, I live in the desert, so I keep my entire house warmer than 77° year-round.  Maybe it will never come on for you folks in more normal temperatures!

Once the machine has filtered the water you can begin.  The empty bottle is placed onto the tray below  the water spout.  Any bottle I’ve ever seen can be used with this machine.  Notice the notches on the front allow you to move the tray up or down, depending on the bottle size.  Manipulating the dial, you can choose how much you would like to prepare, beginning at 4 oz and up to 11 oz.  This is SO convenient as I prepare bottles for my four month old ranging from 5-8 oz on any given day.

The machine sends out an initial “hot shot” which serves a dual purpose of killing any bacteria in the formula, as well as helping the formula dissolve thoroughly.  Once you have mixed the formula in, place the bottle back under the spout and press the start/stop again.  Now the rest of the water needed spurts out, filling the bottle to just the right amount at just the right temperature.  It’s really quite amazing.

I mentioned before the overheated light was coming on quite a bit for me.  There are also other warning lights and they are all together — love this feature.  Thank you, Tommee Tippee, for putting all of the buttons together in a way that makes sense.  When you need to change the filter, add more water, descale, etc… an easy to see light comes on in the warning area.

    Hi. Im puzzled about how the cold water that the machine adds to the bottle is 100% bacteria free. Surely filtering the water doesn’t kill all the bacteria in the water? Would it not just remove the impurities and not kill the bacteria? And Is it safe for water to be lying in the machine for hours? (I’m considering purchasing this product, but would like some clarification on these questions)

    Love it, it’s look simple to use it. Just wanna ask Do you have to fill the formula everytime you make a bottle, or does it measure it out for you?

    BUYER BEWARE!!!!! Well I had purchased this machine in 5/2014. It stayed in the box until August 2014 till my baby was born. (Which is what all moms due I would think) A couple months ago it started to leak at the seams of the machine. I found my receipt and called today to only be told it has been past the 12 mo warranty and there is nothing they will do. I even followed all their guidelines on cleaning the machine.I also tried to explain most mommies to be are going to purchase their things months in advance to prep for baby.So YES they have lost a customer and all I can do is pass on my experience and hope this does not happen to someone else! To all my fellow mommies or mommies to be…If you plan on purchasing this item, please use it immediately and do not wait till the babies born! Sorry if this is choppy but I am quite angry to say the least and disappointed.

    It doesn’t dispense at 98.6°, it’s 77°
    It won’t dispense at over 77° at all.

    I like what you said about creating good content, because, above all, well-made content is key to building and maintaining an audience. I think it will be interesting to follow e-commerce trends and online marketing tactics as they adapt to new social media platforms, like Pinterest.
