Since moving into this home in January, the garage is still a bit of an unorganized mess (which is killing me slowly).  There is no utility closet in our home, no real place to keep brooms, vacuums and the like, only our garage.  In a real attempt to organize the hoarding hole that is the garage,  I decided it was high time to DIY a cleaning supply storage area.  For the love of all things pegboard, I headed to my local hardware store and purchased some pegboard, many hooks and some fluorescent pink spray paint.  Hey, it’s almost summer and neon is so in for the season. ;)

Before I jump to the pegboard cleaning supply storage tutorial, I have to introduce you to my new best friend, the Eureka Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal® available at Walmarts nationwide.  This gem of a vacuum can tackle any surface with its 5 height adjustments from tall carpets to tile.  The suction power is incredible – I was amazed at how much this vacuum was able to bring up out of the carpet, even after having just vacuumed the other day.  A feature I really appreciate is the cord storage.  One push of a button and the cord is nicely rolled out of the way!

If you follow my blog, you know I have a daughter with wild, spiral curly hair.  Keeping it long is a part-time job as it requires a good amount of upkeep, mainly lots and lots of de-tangling, conditioning and scrunching.  It is so beautiful and she loves it long, so I deal with it, but it can have its downsides like clogging drains and covering carpets.  My daughter sheds worse than a pack of poodles and it really tangles up the vacuum brush — well, not anymore!

The Eureka Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal® has solved the hair and string tangle with a touch of a pedal.  This vacuum has a self-cleaning brushroll.  When you notice buildup of hair around the brush, simply press down the brushroll clean pedal for less than 10 seconds and it cuts it and pulls it into the canister.  I swear, the first time (and second and third time) you see it with your own eyes, you will be amazed!  It works so well – no scissors needed ever again, that’s for sure!  A vacuum is a vacuum normally and a new one is typically like reinventing the wheel, but this one actually addresses a problem and solves it – that is worth the upgrade.

Now let’s build a place to house this fabulous vacuum!

  • two 2′ x 4′ pegboards
  • assortment of pegboard hooks
  • spray paint + contrasting spray paint
  • 10 wood screws

Lay out your pegboards and give them a nice even coat or two of spray paint. I opted for a gloss finish purely based on the amount of cleaning the board will undergo in its lifetime.

Lay out your hooks, note that the rubber kind will not take the paint so find mostly metal.  Spray with a couple of coats of a contrasting color – neon pink being my suggestion.  Hopefully you too have a husband who is okay with your neon pink obsession!

Affix the pegboards longways, stacked, to the wall with wood screws in each corner + one in the center.  I had to work around an existing automatic paper towel dispenser the previous owners installed, so we cut down one of the pegboards to fit.  Chances are, you won’t have this problem.  Next comes the hook arrangement, which may take some time to figure out.  Trial and error works best here.  Make sure to hang your longer items high so your floor items fit nicely.

On the floor, arrange your bigger items.  Mine are the Eureka Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal® Vacuum, the rug shampooer and my mop bucket, which all get regular use so I am glad to have them handy!  Next step, gardening supplies organization.  Stay tuned!

I have three kids, three cats, a dog, and me. I say me because I suffer from scalp psoriasis so my hair falls out even more then most. My vacuum is always getting stuck from hair. This would be a blessing and make it so much easier to clean every day without having to try to get hair out of the wheel. Crossing fingers.

This technology is genius!! I’m glad somebody finally thought of this and made it happen. I always get things tangled in the brushroll. I’m sure this technology prolongs the vacuums life.
