After 12 years with my husband, I can say one thing for sure – we created two amazing children.  Every day that goes by, they become even better human beings who make me laugh, make me cry and make me proud.  While I like to take some credit for their awesomeness, a lot of credit is owed to my other half, Neil.  With Father’s Day just around the corner, I thought I’d share a natural beauty gift basket idea inspired by my metro man.  Yes, I said beauty!

So yesterday night, we arrived home after a really lovely few days in Anaheim, CA, the pinnacle of which was Disneyland and California Adventure.  My husband and I have really chaotic schedules since we both are self-employed (me a writer/blogger, he a photographer).  There is no such thing as “off the clock” and a weekend is no different than a weekday… so when the off chance comes that we can break away, we RUN!

This trip was just another reminder of how great Neil is as a father (see adorableness above).  Over the last 9+ years, he’s actually worked at becoming a better father, recognizing his flaws and looking for places of improvement.  Just that alone, I find SO attractive and just what I always wanted in a partner on this crazytrain called parenthood.

Neil is currently rocking a sizeable beard and a hat since he didn’t have time to get to the barber before our trip, but normally, he is a well groomed man.  When I met him, I couldn’t believe how much he groomed himself.  He was like a hairless cat… smooth arms and legs.  He does a much better job at keeping his legs hairless than I do!  He is covered neck to toe in tattoos, so I assumed that was why, but he quickly assured me he had been shaving his entire body since pubescence.

His apartment was also the cleanest apartment I had ever seen a bachelor’s be.  Pristine.  I knew upon first entry that I had found myself a rare breed of man – the Heavily Tattooed Metro.  They don’t occur naturally in the wild often, so I snagged him right up.  He doesn’t take long to get ready, but he cares about his appearance, specifically his skin, hair and nails.  We share skincare products all the time and I love that he understands not all products are created equally.  We are always searching for more natural options.

Putting together a natural beauty Father’s Day gift basket is an easy way to encourage your husband or father to take better care of their skin.  Men, by nature, look to women for advice on topics like skincare, whether they want to admit it or not.  Nudging them with a manly gift basket is perfect – the products are already in their home, now just use them!  There are a lot of natural beauty product options available.  You can find them in local stores like Walmart or online at various retailers.  Just make sure to double check the ingredients – “natural” on the label isn’t always enough!

ideas for a natural Father’s Day gift basket

  • body wash or bar soap
  • shampoo, conditioner
  • body lotion
  • deodorant
  • shave soap
  • facial cleanser and/or facial scrub
  • facial toner
  • facial masks
  • toothpaste, mouth rinse
  • toothbrush
  • lip balm
  • accessories: shave, nail, hair, facial hair

My metro man is very particular about his oral hygiene.  He brushes three times a day and uses mouth wash literally all day long.  I have to buy super jumbo packs of mouth rinse just to keep up with the demand in our house.  His toothbrush game was kind of weak though, so I grabbed him a Philips Sonicare Essence at Walmart.  This was the perfect item to be the heart of his beauty basket.  Did I say beauty?  I mean mega manly hygiene basket.

I have been using electric toothbrushes for awhile, but never Neil, so I was interested to see how he liked the change.  The Philips Sonicare Essence removes up to 2X more plaque than a manual toothbrush, which is all I had to tell him before he tried. The unique dynamic cleaning action of the electric toothbrush gently (this is key for my hard-brusher) and effectively reaches deep between teeth and along the gum line.  It features a 2 minute timer so each session is adequate, and after 24 hours of charging, it stays charged for 2 weeks of brushing!

Don’t forget to sign your Father’s Day card with a kiss!

Easy to use, the Philips Sonicare Essence is a perfect gift for Father’s Day.  Help the special father in your life to have bright, white teeth for the warm weather season! Find the Philips Sonicare Essence and other Philips Sonicare products at Walmart in the aisle with toothpaste and toothbrushes.  The Philips Sonicare Essence is currently on rollback from $39.95 to $34.95!

This basket is amazing and exactly what my husband would love. He is also a bearded metro kind of guy, but is late to that tattoo game. I see a few sleeves in his future though. #client
