mother daughter summer picnics {twinning}

The warm summer days are here to stay for awhile, so get outside!  We recently took a 3 day break from life in Whitewater, California.  Just about 18 miles outside of Palm Springs, it is a quick ride for us to a flowing river, green vegetation and clear blue, endless skies.

My daughter, Savannah, and I have grown very close lately.  Since turning 8, she has truly become my best friend and I love spending one-on-one time with her.  I rarely leave the house without her – if she is available, she is tagging along.  One of our favorite things to do is pack a simple picnic and head outdoors, Whitewater Preserve being infinitely perfect for said activity.

Around these parts, shoes are pretty important, and while I prefer to always be barefoot, terrains such as Whitewater require soles.  Between the sharp creosote and prickly cactus (not to mention the rattlesnakes) going barefoot in the desert is not a smart idea.  I’m not much of an athletic shoe person outside of working out so Vans are my go-to.  Naturally, my daughter feels the same.

These particular Vans are the Atwood style, which in my mind, are the most comfortable in the Vans family.  The collar is padded so even when the shoes are brand new, they are not stiff and won’t rub your skin.  They are perfect for running around Whitewater, adventuring, exploring and soaking up the sun.

Both of our Vans were purchased online at Famous Footwear.  Check out the Famous Footwear #ohsofamous style gallery for inspiration, see what others are wearing, and the full collection of shoes offered.
