maximizing family vacation time with Cascade

This post is sponsored by Cascade – all opinions are my own.

As a homeschooling mom, my philosophy is kids learn better on the road. I value travel and adventure over worksheets at a desk. This means I’m always planning our next field trip, road trip or getaway. The more I travel with the kids (mostly without my husband) the better I get at it. The secrets lie in perfect packing, managed expectations and little hacks to make the trips go smoothly. Tip #364, if you’re traveling for more than 2 days, stay in a place with a dishwasher!

I really love adventures in all shapes and sizes from backcountry camping to hotel suites. It’s all great in my book but nothing is more relaxing with kids than a stay in a timeshare condo or Airbnb rental. Having a full kitchen (with a dishwasher, this is important guys!) means we can still have big breakfasts and homecooked dinners. I mean, check out this vegan spread we all made together last week!

We spent this past week in Big Bear and there was a wide range of weather. We had sunny days, rainy days, snowy days, rainy/snowy days – everything. The one really rainy day, we stayed inside and cooked/ate basically all day! There were a lot of board games in the mix and a puddle jump session (followed by a really hot shower) which was really still so fun. That’s one of the things I love about travel, the lack of control over every situation. Kids learn they have to roll with the punches (or the weather) and they are notoriously great at making the best of any situation!

What I’m saying is, we generate a lot of dishes on our adventures. I refuse to use throw away paper plates for my convenience and so I’m often left washing dishes. But of course, no one likes to waste vacation time cleaning and this is why a dishwasher is a must!

When packing up, I make sure to bring my own dishwasher detergent because you never know what the local stores will carry. I’m a bit picky when it comes to the detergent I buy because I don’t want to waste vacation time pre-rinsing or post-scrubbing dirty dishes. I want a powerful detergent to get the job done for me. I use Cascade Pure Essentials.

I’ve used Cascade for as long as I remember – probably my entire adult life. I trust the brand to give me a consistently clean load of dishes, even if my plates have been sitting dirty for a whole day. Now with Cascade Pure Essentials, I get a detergent made with essential oils, a dye-free liquid top and no phosphates or chlorine bleach.

If you’re like me, you are already inside of a Target 2-4 days a week. When I’m scheduling and planning our future adventures, I’m always Googling to see if there is a nearby Target – and that’s the truth! hah I love saving and utilizing Cartwheel in the Target App, so I have a deal to share –> from February 24 through March 30, save $1 off Cascade Pure Essentials (30 count or larger) using Cartwheel in the Target App.

Happy travels you guys!!
