delicious tasting popcorn with a twist {Masala Pop}

Looking for a delightfully tasty snack for yourself or next holiday event? Or maybe even the perfect hostess or holiday gift for your favorite foodie? Then I suggest that you check out Masala Pop.

Masala Pop takes boring old popcorn to a new level of deliciousness with their mix of air popped popcorn and flavorful Indian spices. All their popcorn is handcrafted with organic, gluten free and non-GMO ingredients. This local Portland, OR company also has a nice variety of flavors to choose from.

Masala Pop 3-Pack

Here is what I was sent for review.

First up is the The Masala Pop 3-pack ($15): This is a great way to really try out the assortment of flavors that they have to offer. You can either try out all 3 flavors or choose whatever 3 you want. Individual bags are equivalent to 4 cups each. Here’s what you get to choose from.

Savory Masala with Papadums: This was the first bag to disappear in my home. It’s a nice mix of sweet, salty and a little bit spicy. Obviously, a favorite since I don’t think it lasted more than a day. The papadums give the popcorn a nice added crunch.

Tamarind Sesame with Papadums: This bag is full of flavor and maybe the spiciest of the bunch. It contains sesame seeds and crisp papadums. Rather delicious overall.

Chai Masala with Assam Tea: Since I am quite fond of Chai, I thought for sure this would have been my favorite but surprisingly it wasn’t. I still enjoyed it quite a bit and found the popcorn to be comparatively tasty. The Assam tea is a black tea which really gives this popcorn a strong and malty like flavor.

Masala Pop Gift Box

Next up is a favorite of mine and maybe the best the option when it comes to giving as a gift this holiday season. The Snack with Purpose Gift Box ($20), contains two popcorn flavors in a beautiful box that is made with Indian paper. 10% of the proceeds go to Portland, Oregon’s local chapter, First Book. First Book provides children in need with access to new books and helps to end illiteracy.  You can choose from two flavor options: Coconut Curry with Coconut Chips and Saffron Rose with Oregon Sea Salt or the Coconut Curry and Chai Masala with Oregon Hazelnuts.

I received the Saffron Rose and Coconut Curry option. These two are by far my favorites. I LOVED the Saffron Rose and Oregon Sea Salt flavor. This is the closest one to kettle corn but with a slight and not over powerful rose flavor. It’s the perfect mix of sweet and salty and a wonderful choice for people who do not like spicy foods. The Coconut Curry with Coconut Chips is a wonderful combination of sweet and mildly spicy. You can also purchase both of these flavors separately in individual bags.

Lastly, I got to try out their individual bag (equivalent to 5 cups) of Sag Paneer. This flavor is most similar to cheese popcorn. If you’ve ever had Sag Paneer then you’ll know that it is a mix of Indian cheese and spinach. This was a favorite of my youngest daughter, as was the Saffron Rose.

All of Masala Pop’s flavors are outstanding and I will definitely be purchasing these as gifts and for myself. You can purchase yours through their website and select stores out west. If you live in the Portland area, you can purchase your popcorn right from their store front and/or local specialty grocers. Masala Pop’s popcorn is true yumminess in a bag; don’t miss out on this gem!

Special thanks to Masala Pop for providing samples to facilitate this review. Opinions are 100% my own.
