I think the thing I love most about the holidays is how they make every regular day thing extraordinary.  We decorate our homes more brilliant (and even gaudy is okay).  We sing more cheerily and freely, we entertain more extravagantly and we bake our hearts out.  Life just seems a bit richer.  Our cocktails even get more festive and often very bubbly.  Today I am sharing my love of Aperol and my new SodaStream Power Automatic Sparkling Water Maker *insert all of the heart-eye emojis*.

Aperol.  Do you know it?  Aperol is an Italian digestif (a beverage served after a meal to aid in digestion) made from bitter orange, rhubarb and other herbs and roots.  It has a very unique bitter flavor and pretty red coloring, making it perfect for holiday cocktails.  The most famous Aperol cocktail is the Aperol Spritz, which is Aperol with prosecco and club soda.  It is a lovely cocktail created in the 50’s.  Since I had my new SodaStream Power in the house, I decided to do a riff on the classic with the Sparkling Lime Basil and Sparkling Mixed Berry, leaving out the prosecco to cut calories and alcohol content.

Cocktails during holiday parties are usually a great idea, but getting your guests a little too tipsy can open up opportunities for unfortunate, awkward situations.  We’ve all been at THAT holiday party, amirite?? Since I took the prosecco out and Aperol has a very low ABV – plus it is filled to the brim with sparkling water – this is one refreshing drink that you could have many of during your holiday party.  No lampshades on the head with this one.

This year, I am not letting myself fall into any sort of unhealthy slump or sugar coma.  You can absolutely enjoy the holidays without going overboard and you can keep up with healthy habits like drinking LOTS of water.  With a SodaStream Power in our little bar area now, sparkling water is available 24/7, at the push of a button.  I love carbonation but do not drink sodas (and I have been trying to get my husband to drink less soda at least) so sparkling water is a great option for us.  I love the sleek design of the SodaStream Power, so I can just leave it out in plain sight and not want to hide it away.

The SodaStream Power has a quick snap-lock bottle insertion making it SO easy to use, one button touch and you’re done.  Pour in your choice of SodaStream Water(s), a great low calorie option to liven up your sparkling water. They are made with all natural sweeteners and colors, and you can definitely taste that.  Today I used two Sparkling Gourmet Waters to balance the Aperol – Basil Lime (herby, tart) and Mixed Berry (sweet, fruity).  They go really well together but, I have to say, next up I’m trying the Blackcurrant Lime (!!) which sounds and smells divine!

Wow, what an amazing lightened up version of the original. I love how the SodaStream can help take away some of the added calories by substituting the prosecco. So smart! I’ll have to try this! [client]
