a do-it-all everyday printer {Epson Expression XP-600}

epson expression xp-600Are you one of the many families who did not get their Christmas cards ordered in time?  It happens.  A great option is to simply print them at home.  On a hunt for a printer that does all the average family needs: document and photo printing, copying, scanning and more, but at a great price, I came across the Small-in-One printers from Epson.

Nothing beats the convenience of wireless printing whether it is from your laptop, iPad or smartphone.  Not having to hardwire your computer into the printer is priceless.  Any steps we can take out of our daily tasks for a more efficient and less time-consuming result, we better take.  This was my number one requirement while looking for a printer — to be able to print from my iPad.  Hey, its 2013, er *almost.  With Epson Connect, you can send printing jobs to your printer from your computer, iPad, iPhone, tablet or smartphone.  Setting this up is super easy, just connect to your home WiFi.

Prior to this printer I was using a different Epson that has since been discontinued.  With 2-3 years of happy times with Epson, I knew I wanted to stick with the brand.  Epson is a quality company and I have zero complaints.  I simply wanted to step up my everyday printer and that I did with the Epson Expression XP-600 Small-in-One.  I have used other major brands in the past with some satisfaction but I think Epson has the best ink.  I’m basing this on the simple fact that I get bright photos and sharp text from the printers.

Setting up the Epson Expression XP-600 Small-in-One was pretty simple.  A quick tour of the cassettes and the LCD home screen, and I was good to go.  The front has several cassettes, or trays that hold paper and photo paper of various sizes, and CD/DVDs.  Get these figured out first and load them up.  When printing, make sure the output tray is pulled out or you will receive an error beeping.  The XP-600 does take heavier recycled paper, but I’m going to go ahead and say no to heavy card stock as the paper does have to do a 180 during printing.

Aesthetics are important to me, even when it comes to something as utilitarian as a printer.  I like sleek things that take up the most minimal amount of space necessary.  This printer is just that.  It has a pretty bossy weight to it, which I like as it says good quality to me, but it fits nicely out of the way in our computer nook.  Everything stays closed up and compact while you are not using it.

I mentioned before that I think Epson has the best ink, which, when considering photo printing, is important.  So with this printer you have the three colors: cyan, magenta and yellow, plus a photo black and a double regular black cartridge.  Love the double black as I really can’t stand replacing cartridges, so the longer they last the better.  The inks are Claria Premium Inks, which translate to brilliant photos and text.  The colors are super rich, bright and last forever.  This isn’t a printer for professional photo printing but it certainly handles the typical family needs of printing photos for frames and gifts.

This Epson printer packs a powerful printing punch but has a light footprint.  Energy Star qualified, this printer is totally recyclable and Epson is a SmartWay Transport partner, meaning they travel cleaner.  Another great eco-friendly feature is the easy two-sided printing capability.  I always print on both sides when possible!

Purchase the Epson Expression XP-600 from Amazon, which is currently on sale for $50 off!  I don’t know how long this price will last so take advantage!
