healing pedicure at home {DIY it}

I am so picky about my moisturizers because there are some really terrible ones out there. Too thin, too thick. Too medical grade smelling, too cheap perfume smelling. The worst offense in my book, though, is greasy. Greasy moisturizers give me a serious case of the icks. I need a lotion that sinks into my skin and leaves behind nothing but supple skin… no layer of oil slick, por favor.

Here’s another thing… I naturally have very dry skin. Compound that with the fact that I live in the arid desert that sees no moisture. I also have a pretty severe nickel allergy, which means I cannot wear any jewelry besides platinum or 24k gold without my skin reacting. Nickel can also be found in foods so if I eat too many leafy greens I get what is called “nickel eczema”. When that happens, my dry skin becomes itchy and irritated. : ( Keeping my skin super hydrated helps A LOT so quality moisturizers are important to my skin’s health, but wouldn’t it be nice if the lotion also healed?

Vaseline Intensive Care Healing Serums review #vaseline

Vaseline has released an incredible trio of Intensive CareTM Healing Serums. YES, I said serums. This first ever moisturizing body care serum contains highly concentrated, healing ingredients to rocket your skin into another stratosphere of hydration. I’m not kidding when I say, I will not be buying any other body moisturizers this summer.

Vaseline® Intensive CareTM Healing Serums provides dry skin with 10x the healing power over time. It actually reverses skin damage while hydrating. The magical formula combines PPAR activators, elastomers and Vaseline® Jelly to work together to moisturize and heal dry skin. When I first tried the new serum I could see instant improvement, even on my dry patchy areas. Most impressive, your skin stays hydrated all day. All day ya’ll.

Here in the Southern California desert the weather is hitting the mid 80s every day. It is magnificent. This means I am living outdoors as much as possible, blogging by the pool and playing with the kids. It can be so easy to forget skin upkeep during the winter when you are all bundled up. I for sure have been! Today, I grabbed my pedicure essentials and headed out to the pool so I could treat my feet and catch a few rays. There happened to be a beautiful rainbow right at that moment!

First step of any body skincare is dry brushing. To say I am obsessed with dry brushing is a great understatement. This ancient practice not only sloughs away dull, dead skin, but it also increases circulation. This makes is a detoxifying process that stimulates the lymphatic and immune systems, and even reduces toxin harboring cellulite. Plus? You will have the smoothest skin ever. Go buy a wide, long-handled (for those hard-to-reach spots) natural bristle brush right now!

Next for my feet came a good scrub. I chose a locally-made scrub that uses organic locally-sourced ingredients and scrubbed away (mojito scent!). Now we are getting somewhere! A quick cuticle cut, nail buff and trim… I was ready for polish. After all that brushing and scrubbing, my feet desperately were craving some MOISTURE. Vaseline® Intensive Care Healing Serums to the rescue!

Vaseline® Intensive Care Healing Serums comes in three different formulas to fit your needs. Advanced Relief moisturizes to heal and calm severely dry skin (my personal favorite), Radiance Restore moisturizes to heal and restore radiance to dry, dull skin (everyday dryness) and Deep Repair deeply moisturizes to heal rough cracked skin (major damage control). All three have very pleasant fragrances, nothing that will overwhelm your perfume!
