goat milk alternatives for cow milk intolerance {Kabrita}

When my son turned one I knew I wouldn’t be filing his bottles and sippies with cow milk.  Since his birth he has had troubles with “regular” formula… an upset stomach that led to lots of spit up, vomiting and abdominal pain (and I believe also the cause of his bad diaper rash).  It took me awhile to find a formula that he could keep down and that didn’t cause the symptoms of intolerance (note: he does not have an allergy to cow milk).  Now in his toddler years, he drinks a lot of soy or almond milk and I have to be careful with the cheeses I choose for him.  Yogurts are completely out of the question — those come immediately back up or disrupt his digestion.  I feel his pain, literally, because I am also intolerant.

When I cut dairy largely out of my life, I felt better and my digestion improved greatly.  I struggle with completely cutting out cow cheeses but always keep my fridge stocked with goat cheese.  Goat cheese is more widely available these days, coming in a range of familiar varieties and styles, and these are what I feed to my toddler.  But where are other goat milk products?

Please note: Kabrita is NOT suitable for children with a confirmed cow milk protein allergy!

Kabrita goat milk products are a Godsend for children with cow milk intolerance.  Goat milk is considerably easier to digest than cow milk due to its different protein and fats.  The protein in goat milk forms a softer curd in the stomach – a curd that is similar to the curd human milk forms.  The fat globules in goat milk are smaller than that from the cow, so they break down faster and digest easier.  Basically, goat milk is remarkably similar to human milk.

Goat milk also contains 13% more calcium, 25% more vitamin B-6, 47% more vitamin A, 134% more potassium, and three times more niacin than milk from a cow.  wow.  Why is goat milk not more popular in the US?

Kabrita products come in two forms – Kabrita Goat Milk Toddler Formula and Kabrita Goat Milk Yogurt and Fruit.  Finally a yogurt my toddler can tolerate and happily enjoy!  He is quite obsessed with these pouches and I take them everywhere.  Not only are they easy to digest, but they are non-GMO and super nutritious  They are a good source of vitamin C, D & E, fiber and free of preservatives — all natural ingredients.  Find them in these three flavors: Mixed Berry, Banana & Natural Vanilla Bean, and Mango Peach.

Here’s a product I wish I had a year ago, the Kabrita Goat Milk Toddler Formula for ages 12-24mos, which is gentle, naturally easy to digest and specially designed to meet your little one’s developing nutritional needs.  It is non-GMO (yeay!) and it contains iron, DHA/ARA and OPO fat which is easily digested.  Similar in levels as human milk, goat milk has naturally occurring nucleotides, which are integral to almost all biological processes in the human body, specifically as components of DNA and RNA. They support cell growth and repair since nucleotides are involved in the synthesis of proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates.  Goat milk levels are close to human milk, as opposed to cow with a ratio difference of 11 to 1!!
