Living in a prime spot of the US for roadtrippin’, we do it often.  Keeping kids busy and entertained (and also quiet) on long trips can be challenging, but with a little preparation ahead of time, it can be done!  So pack up your things, plan a destination and hit the road – it’s time for a summer adventure!

When it was just Savannah, we were always on the road.  The three of us were wanderlusters from the beginning.  We cooled our heels a bit as our second child was born, but now that he is 2 1/2, we’ve been back at it.  Keeping toddlers entertained isn’t so hard… check out my top 10 Tips for Traveling with Toddlers if that is your current battle.

What I find more difficult is the elementary age.  My 8 1/2 year old (about to enter 3rd grade) grows bored easily, and in an effort to keep her brain engaged this summer, I searched the internet for free educational worksheets I could print off.  I focused on geography and nature as that fits the travel and roadtrip theme and all of the sites below have great worksheets in those categories (and lots of everything else!).

My top 10 free educational worksheet websites:

  2. Common Core Sheets
  3. Jump Start
  4. Teacher Vision
  5. TLSbooks
  6. Teach-nology
  7. Help Teaching
  8. Enchanted Learning
  9. 3D Geography
  10. Kids Know It Network

Print these off on 3 hole pre-punched printer paper so that they can be placed in a binder.  This way, all worksheets stay in one place.  If you roadtrip like I do with a stuffed car, you don’t want any extra loose items floating around.

Find a binder with a sleeve on front and print out my road trippin’ printable I designed with Savannah!  Our design definitely reflects our typical desert landscapes.  I’m kind of in love with her tumbleweed row! -> download

The other thing you need for road trips is extra cash, right?  While you save money by taking the car and traveling to nearer destinations, gas and lodging can tug at the wallet.  If you’re like me, you also pull over at every local artisan stand along the way to buy unique trinkets and furnishings.  One way to free up some extra moolah is to rethink your cell phone and plan.  This can be a touchy issue for people because we all have felt completely taken advantage of when it comes to 2 year contracts, penalties, waiting for upgrades and hidden fees.  I know I have.

So, this month I explored a world very new to me – Walmart Family Mobile.  I went into Walmart and purchased the Alcatel One Touch Pop Astro and WFM Service.  I’ll get to the phone in a minute, but let’s talk about this unique postpaid service first.  Get a bill every month without an annual contract, no credit check and experience T-Mobile’s 4G LTE nationwide network and its amazing service.

I had a light bulb moment during this campaign while researching the pros and cons of the Walmart Family Mobile service.  I’m showing you a great phone today, but if you want to switch from your current provider, you can totally take your existing GSM unlocked phone with you!! The monthly cost cannot be beat, starting at $29.88/month** (for the first line) Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan which includes up to 1G of 4G LTE data… grow your data plan from there.  The Alcatel One Touch Pop Astro has a 4.5” screen and 5MP camera, plus all the other features you need to be on the road this summer.  It is easy to navigate and set up is such a breeze!

Pack up your car, grab the kids (and your road trippin’ binder) and head out on the open road.  Kids will only be kids once – explore with them!!

Head to Walmart to discover more about Walmart Family Mobile and the phones offered, including the awesome Alcatel One Touch Pop Astro!  Find these phones and service help in the electronic department.
