family night at the art museum + a water delivery you need

There are many reasons why I love living in Palm Springs.  One reason, definitely, is the history, culture and artistic beauty of the city.  It is a vibrant place filled with vibrant people.  Our art museums are no different and always filled with awe-inspiring exhibits.

Savannah just began 5th grade and got to choose two electives this year.  She is continuing on with her Spanish studies and for her other choice, she picked art history.  She has always loved arts and crafts and has a real knack for drawing.  I really want to encourage and supplement her art history class, so we’ll be checking out the SoCal art museums regularly.

We homeschool.  Savannah attends a school online and Gabriel attends a charter school co-op, meaning he is also learning at home 4 days a week.  This is his first year in formal school as a transitional kindergartner.  I wasn’t sure if I was up for the 2 kid homeschool challenge, but it has actually been the smoothest start ever.  I’ll tell you what’s worse, homeschooling with a toddler running around craving attention.  In preschool a lot of “studies” are art-based, so I’m up to my elbows in paints, markers, crayons, clay and everything else.

The art museum is usually a place that just Savannah and I go to.  It is a great mother/daughter date spot!  With the Contemporary Glass exhibit leaving the Palm Springs Art Museum soon, though, I decided Gabe should come with.  I was honestly surprised at how engaged he was with EVERYTHING.  From painting #1 to sculpture last, Gabriel was so excited and intrigued.

Is there anything better than seeing a look of amazement on your kid’s face?  I had Savannah reading the exhibit labels, dying to learn more about and tell me all about the pieces…

…and Gabriel just staring in awe.  I could just see the wheels turning behind his eyes as he studied the different exhibits.

Visiting an art museum is a great idea for a family night out, so schedule yours!  Many museums let kids in for free and some have free days for all.  The Palm Springs Art Museum lets everyone in for free on Thursdays during the summer and the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert is free ALL days, thanks to a very generous donation.

Okay, my favorite things currently at PSAM (in no particular order):

I love these little family excursions around town.  They don’t require much other than excited attitudes and plenty of water.  You’ll notice we have our water of choice in hand throughout the night – FIJI Water.

Guys, I don’t know what the hell Mother Earth is thinking right now, but this weekend is calling for a high of 117.  117 and it is late August!  The norm is definitely a lot closer to 100, so we are all cringing.  The dry desert heat really zaps moisture from your body so it is imperative that one never leaves the house without water, and we never do.

It can actually be difficult to keep up with the water demand around here, so I signed up for a FIJI Water Home Delivery subscription.  I have had a long and happy relationship with FIJI Water, starting about 13 years ago when I met my now husband.  He always had a refrigerator stocked with FIJI Water, always one in the car, always one in hand on the go… the brand has always reminded me of him and so it is the brand I buy!  Now we are busy parents who are always looking for shortcuts and helping hands.  What better for us desert dwellers than compact water bottles delivered to our doorstep?!

FIJI Water comes from the islands of Fiji, bottled right at the source.  It tastes absolutely delicious – pure, crisp and refreshing.  My favorite size is the 700mL which is perfect on the go (in the car, at the gym and anywhere else in the desert).  You can now have a case of 12  700mL bottles delivered to your home for $30 + free shipping!

Prefer other sizes?  Cool.  The FIJI Water Home Delivery offers five different sizes to suit your needs.
