Dr. Brown’s Gia nursing pillow {Breastfeeding Week} + Giveaway

August 1-7 is World Breastfeeding Week and in honor of the event we are sharing breastfeeding gold: the perfect nursing pillow.  Dr. Brown’s products are a staple in my home and now the Gia Nursing Pillow is as well, sent to me for review.

Nursing pillows make for great infant positioners for both relaxing and tummy time.  As they learn to sit (as my son is now) nursing pillows become awesome sit supports and crash pads.  My son seems to love the shape of the Gia and you will find him casually relaxing, even sleeping in it.  Double duty baby products are a must to avoid you house looking like a daycare.

I have a couple other nursing pillows and the Dr. Brown’s Gia Nursing Pillow is definitely the plushest.  I thought this trait was fab for infant lounging, but was worried this would be a negative for nursing.  Too much give and moms won’t have enough support, but the thick-to-thin design of the Gia creates the perfect height for nursing, no hunching over at all.  This unique, angular shape allows for nursing baby to be up at an angle (think slope), which creates a better digestion position.  My son had a lot of difficulty with reflux in his first few months — if only I had this pillow then!

The Gia is machine washable and Dr. Brown’s says the pillow will not lose it’s shape in the machine.  I recommend always using a cover, though, to prevent needing to wash the actual pillow too much.  While researching this product, I found quite a few people saying the covers were difficult to put on.  While it does take a little maneuvering and pillow squishing, it is not a problem to me.  The tradeoff for 30 seconds of maneuvering is a pillow cover without zippers or buttons, which I think is quite worth it.

The covers are soft and pretty, coming in four different pastel designs.  I was sent the blue design named Beco, a solid blue with embroidered elephants.  It is very pleasant aesthetically and I don’t mind it sitting around the house.

Purchase the Dr. Brown’s Gia Nursing Pillow from Amazon for $29.99 and cover for $19.99 (both items priced less at the moment).  Keep in the know by liking Dr. Brown’s on Facebook.
