DIY Trash Bag Racetrack {CARS party}

This DIY Trash Bag Racetrack was made by me as a host of a #DisneySide @Home Celebration. CARS party supplies were provided by Disney Parks and MomSelect to facilitate this post.  Affiliate links included.

Yesterday I hosted a #DisneySide CARS theme party for my son and his new neighborhood dudes.  We just moved to our new home in January – and only as of very recently have had time to patrol the neighborhood to meet anyone.  Life has been… beyond busy and stressful and new lately… so it was great to take an afternoon “off” just to celebrate our toddler boys and Disney!

Considering the target audience being 2 year olds, I decided to go simple with the food and decor, utilizing the amazing package Disney sent + some local finds including cactus around my property.  Radiator Springs is in the desert after all!  This is my current favorite cactus… my daughter swears it looks like a Venus Fly Trap = )

On Amazon, I found a really adorable Lightning McQueen Sandwich Cutter sandwich cutter so I popped out a tray full of simple sammies for the kids.  To give a nice racetrack-inspired contrast, I used pumpernickel and white bread, filled with Vegenaise, cucumber and turkey, a favorite of my son’s.  Those flew off the stand!

To have a bit of fun, I served up stoplight pepper strips and string cheese “stoplights” with a side of black licorice “tire tracks” and plenty of yummy home-popped popcorn.

Everyone had a couple CARS cars to race around the tablecloth racetrack, which was a really great perk.  It kept fidgety toddlers in their seats long enough to consume some healthy calories!

Against all better judgement, I piled up a nice stack of chocolate-coated donuts… er, I mean tires! So cute, right?

…and dipped extra-big marshmallows in chocolate (keeping with that white-black theme) and popped lollipop sticks through them.  These DID NOT suck.  Parents were sneaking them and I had to make more mid-party ;)

These sweet treats were a hit to say the least.  That was pretty much the end of eating and the sugar-fueled toddlers went to stations I had set up.  We had Pin the Smile on Mickey, a lounge with Disney board books, a coloring station…

Just have to mention: How adorable is this CARS Desk and Chair set?  I’m loving the cup holder for crayons and pencils. I’ll be writing up a review on this set and also the CARS Upholstered Chair with Ottoman from Delta in a few days so be on the look out for that!

So let’s get to everyone’s favorite part — the racetracks!  This part was all about the CARS and the kids went wild over the two DIY tracks we set up.

First, I took a long flat desk of mine and rolled out black garbage bags in two long lanes.  Then I used White Duck Brand Tape and taped down the center to separate into two lanes.  Last, I cut the duct tape length wise in half to give me short dashes to create 4 lanes.  Tape down the sides as well if you want a really taut raceway.

The results were quite incredible actually – a durable track that could handle four kids at one time in their own lane!  My son loves this track so much, this morning he woke up and made a bee-line to it.  He was thrilled to have the track all to himself!

One track was not enough, so we decided  make another track that really ZOOMS!!  Tutorial coming soon.  Sneak peek:  it utilizes old faded pool noodles, some leftover black spray paint and DIY racing flags!
