Decorate your own Christmas Tree Station for Kids

Well guys, tomorrow is Thanksgiving. You know what that means, Christmas crafting, decorating and baking will be in full swing by the next morning! Admittedly, we’ve been decorating for Christmas since the second week of November, but this year is different.  This year, I decided to calm my control-freak self and let the kids do most of the decorating. It was hard at first, but very freeing!  At nearly 11 and 5, they can handle so much when I take a step back. Today, I set up a Decorate Your Own Christmas Tree Station for the kiddos and I love what they created!

Whether your let your kids decorate the entire house or white-knuckle control-freak it yourself, this is a super fun activity to get the kiddos involved. Our Christmas colors in the home are white, silver and red. We always do white and silver with one other color. Last year it was blue, this year – red. So I went out and got supplies for the kiddos.  Here’s what you will need to set up a “decorate your own Christmas Tree station” for kids:

  • Christmas Trees – one tree for each kid
  • garlands
  • tinsel
  • faux snow
  • small ornaments
  •  clear ornaments + filler like tiny brush trees, faux snow

Pretty simple. To add a little more fun to the morning, I also put out supplies for the kids to make their own ornaments, both for their trees and bigger trees in the house. For these simple DIY ornaments you will need:

  • clear glass or plastic ornaments
  • fake snow
  • tinsel
  • items for inside (I used small snowflakes, brush trees, garland ties)
  • bows

Life gets so busy during the school year, even more so during the holidays, so slowing down and making time for mornings like this is important. The kids are out of school for a few days – take advantage! It is so crazy how fast time flies – this whole year seemed like a blink of an eye. Finish the year strong with lots and lots of smile-worthy moments!
