Living a healthy lifestyle has always been of top importance to me, especially since having kids, but I’m still all about those savings! I won’t sacrifice our clean eating, active lifestyle for a few bucks, but you better believe I’m always looking for a deal. Even when we live our best lives, though, health crises can arise and then what happens for those of us who are underinsured, uninsured or have a high deductible insurance plan? Money flies!

As a clean-eating vegan mom, the bulk of our diet is produce. We eat tons of fruits and vegetables and everyone says to me – isn’t that expensive? Why no, it doesn’t have to be! I just know where to shop and when. Shop the sales, shop at budget-friendly stores and ALWAYS shop the season. In-season produce is always more nutritious, more likely to be local and cheaper. Stock up on both fruits and vegetables when they are in season. Buy extra and preserve for later by freezing or canning.
plan active, local, outdoor vacations
Stay active as a family by traveling often! People always tell me they are envious of our family’s travels as we are always on the go. While we do travel quite a bit, most of it is simply local-ish road trips with budget hotels, tent camping or an RV like we are in right now. These are budget-friendly options that provide a lot of opportunity to stay active. Get creative, stay regional and plan around free opportunities to get active as a family.

This one is hard for me but I have committed to trying. As soon as I really stuck to planning, shopping and prepping our week’s meals, I saw instant savings. When you plan out a week’s worth of meals, you can buy less by planning meals with similar ingredients. Use the same proteins but switch up the flavors with spices, vegetables and grains. This really is a big $$ saver!
