I’m a firm believer in making the most of the morning. How you start your day definitely sets the tone for the rest of it, so why not begin with a bang? We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet so many of us skip it. Whether we just aren’t hungry, we don’t like traditional breakfast foods or we’re too darn busy getting the kids feed, breakfast can be a struggle. I’m totally guilty of skipping it, but this year I resolute to put breakfast first, literally.
Before we hop into the tips, I want to share an easy and healthful breakfast hack: MorningStar Farms® breakfast products. MorningStar Farms® veggie sausage with plant protein power is the better for you way to start your morning off right. Packed with nutrition and protein, they are the perfect quick foods to pair with fresh fruit and/or a croissant and go! More on this later. Here are 4 ways to make sure you eat breakfast every day:
eat what you like
While there are plenty of traditional “breakfast foods” to choose from, breakfast doesn’t have to look like a pile of scrambled eggs or a bowl of cereal. Eat what you want! Craving the leftovers from last night? Go for it. As long as you’re getting good nutrition, any food can be a breakfast food. I tend to go back and forth between traditional foods and leftover Chinese.
wake up 15 min earlier
The biggest reason parents skip breakfast is because we just run out of time, right? Kids come first and usually there isn’t much time left over. Make yourself a priority this year and turn back your alarm 15 minutes. An extra 15 minutes is plenty of time to assemble an easy breakfast – no excuses!
prepare the night before
If you are one of those plan and prep ahead types, breakfast is the perfect place to apply your skills. There are so many fantastic recipes online from breakfast casseroles, quiches, breakfast burritos, etc <- these all freeze well and will make your mornings easier! I’m just not this person, but I do love overnight oats, which I make in bulk and keep in the fridge. They are a nutritious breakfast that is easy to customize with your favorite flavors.
keep it simple
This isn’t brunch, it’s just breakfast so no need to get elaborate. Keep easy foods around like fruits, croissants, muffins, granola bars… things you can grab and go if you need to. You’re more likely to eat breakfast in a rush if it’s easy. Keep your pantry and freezer filled with heat-and-eat meals.
It’s pretty hard for me to believe, but 2017 is officially coming to a close. Time to start anew – New Year, New You, right? Often times health is at the top of the New Year’s Resolutions list, as it should be. What can you do this year to be a healthier you – drink more water, be more active, remember breakfast, switch to a plant-based diet?
We maintain a plant-based diet at our house which for me is vegan, my kids mostly vegetarian (mostly because they love fish, so pescatarian perhaps). The labels are not important; what’s important is that we eat super colorful, natural and nutritious meals with a focus on plants. These days, it’s pretty easy to be vegan/vegetarian as there are so many veggie cuisines available. A loooongtime favorite of mine is MorningStar Farms® products, which I’m sure you have seen and maybe tried.
MorningStar Farms® products are all vegetarian, some vegan and all quite stellar. The breakfast varieties are always in my freezer because they are a hit with everyone in my family, including my picky 4 year old. He absolutely devours them all, his favorites (and mine) being MorningStar Farms® Original Sausage Patties and the MorningStar Farms® Sausage, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwiches. I love that we are getting a ton of protein, fiber and without all of the extra fat. The perfect start to a new day.
Whether you’re vegan/vegetarian or not, MorningStar Farms are perfect for a healthier new year (especially if you’d like to enjoy breakfast but with less fat)! Taste It To Believe It! I stock up on MorningStar Farms products at Walmart, so it’s perfect that right now there is an Ibotta deal.
You can find the product line at Walmart in the frozen section near like-products – vegan, vegetarian and healthier-for-you.
Almost forgot to add, our favorite MorningStar Farms® Original Sausage Patties also comes in Maple Flavored!
