a world of learning {World Almanac Workbooks} + giveaway

Educational books – moms love them, but would you expect kids to go crazy for them also? When the book in question is a The World Almanac For Kids Workbook, in my experience, the answer is absolutely yes!

The workbook is based on the hugely popular World Almanac For Kids, which has been published annually since 1996. There are many variations available; beginning with Pre-K, with more specialized versions including History & Geography and Vocabulary & Wordplay for children aged 11- 13.  These books so are colorful and inventive. Ivy, who is three and able to recognize most letters and sing her ABC’s (over and over and over and over again!) was hooked! She was still going strong with “another one please!” thirteen pages deep.  Vivian who is in Kindergarten, reads and writes (my little girl is so grown up!).  She was devouring these activities with very little direction.  The workbooks are perfectly on par for each age group.

These books give me a warm, nostalgic feeling. Bringing me back to the workbooks and Highlights magazines of my youth. Except these are updated, relevant, and contain quite vibrant images and puzzles.  It is truly a great feeling when your kids ask to do an educational activity!

The Pre-Kindergarten level includes ABC’s, phonics, early reading, numbers, rhyming, science and tons more. The Matching and Sorting Section includes a “one of these things is not like the others”; a personal childhood favorite.  The Life Skills section is fun and oh so functional. Puzzles include “Snow Day” (picking weather appropriate clothes) and “Art Smart” where the child identifies how items should look when cleaned up properly. Yes, this is useful learning!  The kindergarten edition includes many of the same topics plus math, patterns and sequence, and social studies. The subject matter compliments Vivian’s school work perfectly and she is eager to use the skills she has to solve these inventive games and puzzles.

The World Almanac For Kids workbook series truly grows with a child’s cognitive skills and helps to expand on the knowledge and talents of each age group. It’s no wonder these books have won several awards, including an A+ award, Learning Magazine’s “Teacher’s Choice for the Family” Award, a Dr. Toy Award, and a Gold Honor Award from Nappa Toy.  Published by San Francisco’s beloved Chronicle Books, the workbooks are available for purchase directly from Chronicle’s website.
