the great outdoors

winter adventuring and trekking gear

I’m sharing #beyondordinary in my life as part of a Sahale Snacks® sponsored series for Socialstars™

Life in the low desert is pretty great during the winters.  The days are warm and sunny, then the nights are chilly with clear, starry skies.  There is zero humidity in the valley, so no snow, but a quick ride up the mountain and you have access to all of the snow one could need.  My daughter and I do a lot on our own, leaving the boys behind, including hiking.  Especially in the winter months, we love to ride up the mountain (on the Palm Springs Aerial Tram) and explore, bird watch and have the occasional snowball fight.

There is no better air than mountain air – so crisp and fresh.  We live day to day amidst palm trees and cactus, so we really appreciate the mountain evergreens.  We also appreciate the fresh snowfalls that begin happening regularly this time of year and for the next few months.  Seriously, it is one of the reasons we even moved to Palm Springs in the first place – the gorgeous snowy mountains.

Well, I took Savannah up the tram this week for our first trip this season (itching already to go back up) and packed up some necessary hiking tools into a hydration backpack.  We brought the trekking pole so Savannah could hike up some sketchier areas, navigation tools, first aid, those types of things… Oh, and of course the binoculars for some birding!  I’ll be posting some birding with kids tips later this month, so stay tuned for that.

Other than water, the most important thing to remember is energizing snacks.  Nuts are always my go-to whether in trail mixes or bar form.  I have to tell you guys, I have had these Sahale Snacks® Salted Caramel Apple Pecan Layered Nut Bars in my pantry for a few weeks, holding onto them for this trip/post, and it has been driving me crazy.  There is nothing I love more than salted caramel! I eagerly packed them up in our hydration backpack and couldn’t wait to pull them out once we were on the mountain.

The Salted Caramel Apple Pecan Layered Nut Bar does not disappoint.  The salted caramel flavor is right up front – pa POW!  It hits you and it is oh so good.  We inhaled all of them and they were the perfect little snacks for us to keep going, hiking around.  These would be super for any on-the-go situation so just keep them in your purse, car, everywhere!

The Sahale Snacks® Layered Nut Bars feature a 2-layered format that pairs crunchy, dry roasted nuts on top of creamy cashew butter, which is then drizzled with delicious chocolate.  I. Can’t. Even.  They are so good!  I love  Sahale Snacks® for their admirable commitment to sustainability, so make sure to read more on that.  Let’s support the companies who are pro-environment and think about others.

Happy Trekking!
