Fall is officially here ya’ll and I couldn’t be more excited. As a desert dweller, saying sayanara to summer is a joyous moment. I love how the weather instantly changed this week – chilly nights, cool breezes, heavy fogs on the mountains… Incredible. I also love fall because it is our biggest entertaining season and I love to entertain! If there are friends coming over, no matter what the occasion, I’m putting out a cheese platter.
I’ll switch up my cheese platters depending on a few factors – guest preferences, seasonal items and my current budget. Sometimes I’ll go charcueterie with all types of cured meats, sometimes I’ll put out all vegan cheeses, sometimes I’ll spend way too much on soft and stinky cheeses… it all depends. Most days, I like to keep it simple and in compliance with the budget I (more or less) try to set for myself and this is why I’m completely obsessed with the 99 Cents Only Store.
I wasn’t very familiar with the 99 until I heard pf this store from an Instagram friend who was big on juicing. She shared that juicing doesn’t have to be expensive if you have a 99 Cents Only Store around, which carries gorgeous, seasonal, local produce.
I was hooked.
Once I was a regular shopper at the 99, I realized, you never know what you’ll find when you “do the 99”. A quick stroll through the food aisles and I come out with a cart full of name brand products I usually pay triple for at a grocery store. I’ll buy 3 and 4 things at a time because of the savings, which is why I had to create a separate pantry for my hauls from the 99. Yep, I’m a 99er!
My love for the 99 now runs deeper with the addition of wine.
There is nothing better to pair with a cheese platter of any kind than wine. The types of wine you choose will depend on your platter and the preferences of the guests coming. My friends all prefer different varieties of wines from the very sweet wines to the very dry wines, some who only like white wine, others who want red wine. Like any good host, I keep them all in my wine cooler. A good way to save when stocking your wine cooler is to shop for wine at the 99. All three of these wines were only $3.99 each – check your local 99 for these great deals on wine!
Let’s get back to the perfect fall entertaining cheese platter, shall we?
This entire cheese platter, or rather cheese spread is 100% made from ingredients found at the 99. My platter will vary each time with what I find in store, but today here’s what I purchased:
- fruits: strawberries, blueberries, plums, grapes
- cheese: cheddar, monterey jack, pepper jack, colby jack
- extras: Persian cucumbers, 2 types of olives, blueberry jam, pickled chilies, roasted pumpkin seeds
- breads: breadsticks, two types of crackers, artisan bread
If you shop at the 99, have you seen the new artisan bread yet? I always grab a few loaves of bread (freezing extra loaves) when at the 99 so I was super thrilled to see these. They are super high quality and perfect for everything from sandwiches and toast to cheese platters.
What are your favorite things to include on a cheese platter? I love to play with different flavor combinations of sweet, salty, savory, spicy and also textures like soft and crunchy!
We all know the holiday season can overwhelm the wallet, so start saving now. Save on all kinds of things at the 99 from wine and groceries to fall décor and household goods. The 99 Cents Only Store began in Commerce, CA but has since branched out all over the state and into others. There are quite a few here in the Coachella Valley!
