stopping to play in the rain

We are adventuring in Whitewater, California with the kids today and sharing #SahaleSnackers as part of a Sahale Snacks® sponsored series for Socialstars™

Today, it rained.  That may not be a huge deal to most people, but we don’t get full rainy days often here in the desert.  The kids always go nuts, so we decided to take the day off from school and go play in the rain.  We set out on the road for Whitewater Preserve – in search of rushing waters to splash around in while tasting the rain!

With the rain at a perfect, slow patter – the big drop type – and the fog hanging heavy on the mountains, we were all in awe of the beauty around us.  The desert is always full of surprises and the change in weather only made the landscape more dramatic.

Speaking of surprises, this area is, well, a bit dangerous.  You can image that the rare, flowing streams in the middle of the desert are a hotspot for wildlife.  Here at Whitewater, there are bears, rattlesnakes, all kinds of critters big and small.  What I always see signs of EVERY trip to the area, though, are mountain lions.  There are always giant paw prints in the mud and piles of scat.

Enjoying the rare rainy day 🌧🌧 outside with the mountain lions. 🐆🐾

This trip was no exception.  This time, we found big mama lion prints and lots of little baby prints with it.  eeeyikes!

While trips to Disneyland and travels out-of-state are exciting, sometimes your next adventure is just right down the road.  We simply pull over on the side of the road, pile out of the car and stumble down into the streams – and it’s always amazing.

That is the joy of being an outdoors-loving family.  We are pretty easy to please.  All we need is a pretty view, land to run and (of course) snacks for fuel.

My kids can go about maybe 20 minutes before they start requesting snacks.  If I forgot them, the whole day is ruined, so I just keep them in the car.  It’s pretty hot still in the desert, so I can’t leave snacks that can melt in the car.  What I keep in there are nut mixes from Sahale Snacks.

On this particular trip, I brought two flavors from Sahale Snacks – Honey Almonds Glazed Mix and Raspberry Crumble Cashew Mix, both of which are absolutely delicious.  I always opt for nut mixes as they offer great protein and healthy fats to keep my family truckin down the trail (or stream in this case).  Keep in the know with Sahale Snacks on Facebook Instagram and Twitter

Where could you pull off the road and have an adventure?
