Thomas & Friends and Christmas mornings

I’m so excited to see my littlest’s face come Dec 25, who is just about to turn 3. He wasn’t totally aware of what was happening the last Christmas morning, overwhelmed with sensory overload and utter confusion. All he knew was that he wanted to rip open all of the presents, no matter who they were actually for. This year, though, he is going to be a joy to watch and I’m just so ready to see his and his sister’s faces Christmas morning. Christmas came a bit early this year with Thomas & Friends and I got a glimpse of what this year’s special day has in store for us!
Gabriel is totally in love with anything that has wheels, trains being top of the list. His big gift from me and dad is a train set table (don’t tell him) but this weekend I got to see his face light up with the amazing Thomas & Friends™ TrackMaster™ Shipwreck Rails Set from Fisher-Price, which brought so much happiness to our home. This Christmas, I have been very focused on finding gifts that both of my kids can enjoy. Sure, the gifts I buy for Gabriel (3) will be different than the ones I buy for his sister Savannah (9), but there is a lot of grey area where certain things can cross over.
Make believe toys are always fun for both little and older kids – play kitchen, play school, play anything. Train sets are also fabulous for both and this Thomas & Friends ShipWreck Rails Set has to be the coolest one going. I put the set together with Savannah, which was actually fun for us to do together, minus Gabriel freaking out the whole time, dying for us to be done. I’d say it took us about 30 minutes to finish, which wasn’t bad considering how big this set is!
Once the train set was together, I was relieved to see that it STAYED together. The pieces fit tightly and even after hours of Gabriel playing (and Gabriel plays HARD) it was all still intact. I cannot express to you just home much Gabe loves this toy. I love it as well since it has kept him occupied during these super hectic holiday afternoons. He has moderate focus, as much as a toddler can really have, so it isn’t often I find him playing with the same toy an hour later. He cannot stay away from Thomas, though and it is fun to hear his giggles and “GO!!!!” from the other room.
There are two very exciting parts of the Shipwreck Sails set – one is the super fun 360 degree spin part of the track. Thomas climbs to the top of the tall hill and then plummets, spiraling dramatically down. Gabriel never tires of this. The anticipation makes him go silent, and if you know Gabe, he is never silent…
When Thomas gets to the bottom of the spiral, a pirate booty chest drops down into his freight car, which is like THE most exciting thing ever to Gabriel. He just squeals with delight when this happens and cannot wait to grab the chest and put it back into the shipwreck.
Once Gabriel had gotten in hours of playtime with the Shipwreck Rails Set, I popped on a new Thomas & Friends DVD, Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure. His eyes grew so big, I thought they may pop out of his head. What could be better to watch while playing with your new train set than Thomas himself? I’ve always appreciated how low drama Thomas films are and always with a good, clear message. This movie in particular is really great – with more action than I’m used to seeing Thomas in – definitely my favorite so far and Gabriel could’ve watched it on repeat all night.
This TrackMaster™ set is compatible with all other TrackMaster™ sets, allowing your little engineer to continue to expand their Thomas world and create something quite magical right in your living room!
