I have tried it all, from the dentist to the sticky strips, and with some success.  I am not going to say those methods don’t work, but there are some definite downsides, one being the sensitivity they leave behind.  I would say I have moderately sensitive teeth (I don’t use sensitive toothpaste but I can’t bite into a Popsicle without cringing).  When the whitening goo gets on your gums and other soft tissue, it causes real pain that can last for days and even weeks later.  With GLO, you will not feel any sensitivity (at least I didn’t) even after rigorous back-to-back sessions.

While looking at the system online, I felt that this was going to be a trying, if not confusing, review.  Even after I received the box I was still nervous.  I pulled all of the components from the box and suddenly it became quite clear what the process is.

Make sure to charge the control device fully before using (each time).  You will know that it is charged when all three bar lights are glowing blue.  The control can be charged via USB cord/port while traveling.  When you are ready to go, use the lip protection (or they can get aggravated and dry) pop open a G-Vial and squeeze until you see the gel rise to the bristles.  Apply the gel up and down on the fronts of your teeth and then give a good horizontal swipe, making sure you have an even application and get all the crevices.  Plug in the mouthpiece, press the GLO button, and place the mouthpiece (top side up) in your mouth.  Slip the lanyard over your neck.  Go do other stuff.

Once your first eight minutes are up, the device will start to flash.  Head to the sink and pull out the mouthpiece.  Spit out saliva rinse the mouthpiece in warm water.  Start that whole beautiful process over again.  Four back-to-back sessions and you are done.  You can absolutely get four-five applications out of each vial.  Make sure not to skip the lip protection between sessions.

So what results did I see?  I started with pretty white looking teeth but there is always room for improvement.  After my first day of four sessions, I felt my teeth already looked whiter (they definitely felt smoother).  Day three was when I really started to see shades of lightening…shades!   By the close of day five, I was beaming.   The results were excellent and pretty long lasting.  Two weeks later I broke open another G-Vial and did a set of four more sessions to help maintain the level of whiteness.   GLO recommends you do the full system twice a year and maintain in the meantime with no more than four vials a month; I think I can get away with only one or two vials a month.  Once a G-Vial is open, it remains effective for seven days, so keep that in mind if you are splitting up a session.

Pros: While you will need to do four 8 minute sessions consecutively, there is no need to watch the clock as the Control has built in programming.  After 8 minutes the blue lights will start to flash and then turn off.  This makes it very easy to walk around and do other tasks with the GLO system working.  It also hangs around the neck, making it hands free.

Since the G-Vials are filled with a highly-viscous formula, whitening gel will adhere to your teeth avoiding your gums.  This reduces chance for sensitivity.  Note that there is room for human error here so it is up to you to apply properly. This is a huge Pro for anyone who has struggled with other whitening methods in the past that have caused painful and reoccurring sensitivity.  The gel is alcohol and carbamide peroxide free as well.

Cons: I honestly do not have any real concerns to list for GLO Brilliant.  Since this is a review, I searched for other downsides.  The mouthpiece fit my mouth well so this didn’t happen to me often, but there is a chance of drool.  Because of this, I would recommend you do this in private and not around a new boyfriend.  If you have a ring on your finger, you should be fine.

You also will be incapable of talking for this 32 minute period.  I found that no matter how many times I told my daughter I would not be able to speak, she still incessantly asked questions while the mouthpiece was in.  She really found it amusing as well, and still tells people that “mommy sucks on her iPod“.  To her credit, the control does resemble an iProduct.  Since this is a personal problem, it cannot be listed as a real con–but be aware that your family may drive you batty.  Keep this in mind when choosing the time of day (no phone calls, door answering, etc).  I found doing my sessions at night after my daughter was asleep was best for us all.

Tips: Apply carefully to teeth, avoiding gums as they are sensitive and can also be temporarily whitened (not desired effect).  Do not skip the lip protection.  Refrigerate the G-Vials.

If you want to whiten your teeth at home fast (I’m talking at least several shades whiter in just a few days) then GLO Brilliant is the way to go.  There is an expense up front but the majority of the system can be used by the entire family.  The only purchases you will need to make in the future will be more G-Vials, which last quite some time.  Maintaining your bright teeth is easy and will not require much effort on your part.  Do it.
