A good nail polish that is flattering and relevant to the current season is important.  And while I appreciate everyday neutrals (a lot) I also feel the need each season to stock up on pertinent colors.    Awhile back, I posted my Top 5 Kid-Safe Nail Polishes  that continues to be a great resource for lacquer-leery moms.  On that list was one of my top favorite brands (for kids and moms) Priti NYC.  Priti NYC creates 3 FREE (toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DHB) and formaldehyde) non-toxic nail polishes in impeccable colors.  The range of shades goes from shy neutrals to extroverted neons while covering everything in between.

While I was perusing the summer shades, my daughter was excitedly scrolling through the kids line, Priti Princess.  This line was named by the company’s honorary creative director, Siena- who also happens to be founder Kim D’Amato’s 9 year old daughter.  The Priti Princess collection comes in easier to handle 8 ml bottles (wider for small hands).  The collection brings a touch of sophistication to kids nail polishes, while keeping true to their fun, whimsical side.   I told my 5 year old daughter to keep a look out for pool-ready paints and she immediately went to Mermaid’s Hair, a gorgeous salmon metallic shade.  I agreed.  Then I told her some shades would glow in the dark.  It was as if all the air was sucked out of the room.  I watched my daughter’s eyes bulge as she demanded to know which shades.  She went with Orange Glow, an opaque orange with sparkles.

Polish Party night arrived and I’m not sure who was more excited, me or my daughter.  She had generously asked for two new girlfriends (we just moved to a new city) to come over and join in.  So while the girls enjoyed a sugar rush from the best Coconut Lime Sugar Cookies I’ve ever baked, I set up the polish parlor.   For the girls, it was a real hard decision on which Priti Princess color to choose (why? because they must match fingers to toes) until I suggested we throw caution to the wind and try both.   Mermaid’s Hair turned out to be a really gorgeous color after two coats.  Had I been in a metallic mood I might have tried it for myself (there’s still time).  But of course the Orange Glow, which also looked dazzling but with more subtlety, was a clear favorite.  Once the polish was tacky (the anticipation trumped all) they were hiding in dark closets giggling hysterically.   Success.

While the girls were off enjoying their shiny nails and glowing toes, I decided to try out the polish I had chosen, Fireglow.   Fireglow is a perfect summer color, a bright orange sorbet that is fiery yet delicate (not neon).  This one I placed on my toes decidedly going for the same mismatched but complimentary finger to toe look I had suggested to the kids.

When looking at reviews for new nail polish brands, I always scan for information on consistency and ease of application.   While shade selection is crucial, no one wants a runny or gloppy polish.  My experience with Priti NYC was pleasant.  After all nails were buffed and covered with a base coat, both kids and adult polishes went on without a hitch (besides a little human error due to certain unnamed kids with ants in their pants).  Great coverage with two applications, superb staying power, and a very easy application.  I did find that the polishes all seemed to be more brilliant on the nails than the online photos showed, so keep that in mind when ordering.  All polishes can be purchased directly through Priti NYC — take a peek at my runner-up best summer polish Red Maple.
