As a homeschooling mom to a 1st grader, I know how daunting teaching your child can be, especially to read. With the high expectations put on children these days, I often end my days feeling inadequate and very stressed out. As a parent (whether you homeschool or not) we have been given the extremely important task of teaching our kids. Learning cannot stop in the classroom! Reading Eggs, an online reading program for 3–13 year olds will put your kids ahead of the pack, all in the comfort of home! Sign up now and benefit the Read To Cure Challenge (details below).
Any teacher will tell you they are only as good as the materials and resources they have. Being 2014, many of our resources are online and I am SO appreciative they exist. My daughter learns very well on her own, guided by online programs and apps. She has poor attention at times so when she can tune everything out and focus on a program like Reading Eggs, she really excels!
When you begin Reading Eggs, your child will be asked to take a test to access where they are in their reading. My 7 year old was placed pretty far into the program, at level 112 on the map to begin. This is really helpful so your student isn’t stuck doing too much below their level, which is where attention goes out the window! I was impressed with the placement test because the initial lessons were right at her current level. You will notice all the core curriculum topics from basic sight words to phonics to word families to syllables and grammar.
At their own speed, you child works through a possible 120 lessons to learn and improve their reading skills, as well as 96 spelling lessons perfect for ages 3-7. The reading games, songs, puzzles and other activities are fun and my daughter sits for an hour easy playing with the program. Along the way, kids earn golden eggs, which are visual achievements, a proven motivator! I’m excited to see Reading Eggs World coming, for 6-8 year olds who already know the basics of reading but who still have much to learn. It will improve reading fluency and comprehension, spelling and vocabulary, and a range of writing skills including grammar and punctuation. Cannot wait!
Since my daughter is on the top end of the Reading Eggs lessons, she has been exploring Reading Eggspress, which is an expansive library of books, games and activities for readers aged 7-13. My daughter will continue to be challenged by this part of the program for years to come! I love that there are quizzes for reading comprehension practice after a book has been read. Yet another facet of Reading Eggs is Mathseeds, which teaches core math and problem solving skills for kids aged 3-6. My daughter tested out of this, but it is great for younger kids and practice for days when she is going slow. The math skills currently top out at fractions, time telling and money math. I hope to see MathSeeds expand in the future!
Developed by a team of highly trained educators and developers, Reading Eggs is truly an exceptional program for teaching core reading curriculum of phonics and sight words — all in a very fun, interactive way at home. I received 6 months of this program as part of post compensation, but will continue my daughter’s subscription for quite awhile past that, if only just for Reading EggsPress.
