raising eco-conscious children {a green Christmas}

This post about raising eco-conscious children and green Christmas tips is sponsored by New Leaf Energy; all thoughts are my own.

Reflecting on the core values I want my children to own, being an eco-conscious adult ranks high on my list.  Respecting the Earth and appreciating this amazing planet, that we’ve done our best to destroy, is so important.  I believe my kids and their generation will be the ones to make the significant changes.  They will make big strides to improve the Earth and never look back.  But, before they can, we as parents must plant the seed.

Speaking of planting the seed, New Leaf Energy will be planting 1 new tree for every new Facebook Fan through 12/23, so head over now and plant a tree!

I think the best way to get kids excited about being eco-consious is to get outside. Get off the couch and get outside.  Show them the lakes, the oceans, the mountains, the deserts, the forests and every creature that resides in them.  Show them the beauty and they will want to protect it — at least that is my theory!

raising eco-conscious childrenIt is so easy to ignore a problem when you can’t see it.  Kids are so perceptive, even from a young age.  Create outdoor memories early so kids will grow into adults that connect with the Earth.

  • Use creative gift wrapping methods that don’t involve wrapping paper.
  • Turn off the Christmas lights, inside and out when you go to bed.
  • Plant an evergreen tree in the yard.
  • Give your kid their own reusable shopping bag for holiday shopping.
  • Collect rainfall to water your Christmas tree.

    Those are some great tips. We are craft supply central around our house, so we could definitely get into some creative wrapping methods and skip the wrapping paper. That’s pretty cool that New Leaf is planting trees for new FB fans.

    Great tips. We are always looking to donate toys to try and simplify things around here. And I totally agree with the idea of giving kids their own reusable shopping bags, I think they make great gift bags too!
