protect your little sunshine {Purple Prairie Skin Care}

Since the Environmental Working Group released their 2011 Sunscreen Report, I’ve become a little bit obsessed, not to mention terrified by some of the nasty products allowed on the market.   The interactive report not only lists the best and worst sunscreens, but allows you to search your brand to see it’s level of effectiveness.  The ingredients are detailed as to their safety.

While perusing this list for the third or fourth time, I noticed Sun Stuff by Purple Prairie Botanicals.  Sun Stuff is a mineral based sunscreen, rated as one of the lowest hazard sunblocks and rated excellent in UVA protection and stability – this stuff stays put.  The texture is creamy and rich, in a base of olive oil;  main active ingredient is micronized zinc oxide.  Shea and cocoa butter are also added which are not only supple  moisturizers, but also are thought to provide some some natural sun protection.

Comprised of 100% natural ingredients, this pleasant smelling potion held up so well on my test drive, that I have been using it on my girls’ delicate skin ever since.  All three of us have extremely sensitive skin and are prone to irritation from all the chemical junk found in many products.  You won’t find any of that here.  Purple Prairie is as environmentally responsible as they come.  Their zero waste policy includes using reused and recycled products from their ingredients for shipping.  They never test on animals and avoid nasty gunk like petroleum, parabens, sulfates, and synthetic dyes.  I feel good about rubbing this on my babes’ skin… and mine!

A variety of other products are available on their website , including their fabulous Carrot Rose Facial Moisturizer.  Don’t even get me started on the scent: earthy meets lovely, and the luxe cream feels amazing on my face for hours.  Having found the ideal sunscreen – next on my list of must haves is their Bug Stuff.  All natural bug deterrent?  Yes please – I am a mosquito magnet!

Special thanks to Purple Prairie for providing samples for review purposes.
