Quite possibly the biggest decision you have to make when planning for a new baby is the car seat. I can speak from terrifying experience that a carseat can save your child’s life. In fact, one saved my own life when I was an infant, and one saved my daughter’s life a year ago. When shopping for a carseat, I cannot stress research enough. A great place to start your research is on Car-Seat.org. There you will find all kinds of information including safety ratings, tips, reviews and recalls. For safety ratings from the NHTSA, find your seat on their website. What you will see is Peg Perego’s Primo Viaggio SIP 30-30 with remarkable ratings.
Peg Perego is a trusted brand that most moms know. Their Primo Viaggio carseat is by far one of the best infant seats on the market. With safety ratings through the roof, you can rest assured that the Primo Viaggio will get your child from point A to point B without danger. The need-to-know features: the Primo Viaggio is for infants 5-30 lbs and up to 30 inches. This seat, which you better have facing backwards, has a quick-release 5-point safety harness with shoulder pads and fail-safe buckle. There is also a very convenient removable plush cushion for smaller infants. Your baby will be in the lap of luxury and comfort. The headrest and padding are made of soft “Confort dry” microfiber cloth that stays dry and allows for proper ventilation. It also features side impact protection and exceeds the demands of the most stringent test in the world. It has five adjustable vertical positions that will keep your baby’s head and body protected expertly.
The car seat is securely latched to the system base (additional bases can be purchased separately). While the seat is on the heavier side (11 lbs) I had no problem carrying it, latching it in, and taking it back out with a baby inside. The adjustable handle has a rubber grip that really helps with the ease of hold and carrying. If you are unfamiliar with latching a carseat in, I suggest you head over to your local fire department where they will teach you. The Primo Viaggio offers you two options of fastening. You can use the vehicle seat belt or the Latch System Base(both or just the first). As a bonus breath of relaxation, there is an indicator level that shows correct installation angle (see below photo).
The Primo Viaggio SIP 30-30 is offered in 11 beautiful colors, making matching easy. From brights like Apricot and Iris to neutrals like Grey and Java, you will find the perfect seat for your car. Product manual offered in English and Spanish online. The Primo Viaggio is travel system friendly as it clicks onto all Peg Perego strollers, except the Pliko Mini. Peg Perego has an impressive line of strollers that you can make into your own top of the line travel system. My personal favorite is the Vela Easy Drive, which is a durable yet lightweight stroller, perfect for adding weight to (carseat and baby) without it weighing a ton. If you’re looking for something less lightweight and more bossy (and with a reversible seat), try the Pliko Switch Compact. Check out their full line of strollers, and choose for yourself. If you have existing strollers, do not fret, many high end stroller companies sell adaptors for your Primo Viaggio. Browsing around, I found adaptors for Bugaboo, UPPAbaby, Stokke, and Graco. Don’t take this decision lightly, as there is nothing more important than your child’s safety, but you will not be let down by this Italian made power-house company. Peg Perego’s Primo Viaggio SIP 30-30 meets or exceeds all NHTSA standards. It is a safe choice.
