outdoor entertaining areas get clean {pressure washer}

I’m sharing how to pressure wash outdoor entertaining areas as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #ZepSocialstars

With all this warm weather here to stay, sprucing up your outdoor living areas is of high importance.  Wash away the grime of seasons passed with a powerful spray down thanks to your pressure washer and Zep Commercial All-in-1 Premium Pressure Washing Concentrate.  You should spray down the exterior of your home every 1-2 years but with the insane drought we are in here in California, I won’t be doing that until this coming fall.  I do have some smaller jobs for the pressure washer though, so let’s get geared up!

Background: we live in Palm Springs, the bottom of the Mojave Desert in Southern California.  My home is on the edge of a giant wind farm so you can guess what it is like around here — sandstorms for everyone.  This past month has been insanely windy, like push you off your feet and blow your car off the road windy.  Needless to say, all of our outdoor surfaces are covered in sand and other desert sediment.  FYI, that makes having a pool very high maintenance.  We have to manually vacuum and skim the pool every day even with our robot vacuum (nicknamed Wall-E) working hard.

It also means both the front and back patios and walkways are just coated in sediment.  My love of being barefoot does not bode well here.  With early evenings and long nights of entertaining on the horizon, I knew we needed to whip our outdoor space into shape.

dirty stepping stones #zepsocialstars

These side stepping stones take you from the backyard, along the citrus trees and to the garage or front yard.  We call it 64 Citrus Lane.  Anyhoo, I have never cleaned these stones before and it was high time.  In fact, we found a dead bird on one the other day and it left… some grossness behind.  Bring on the pressure washer!!

Before we get started, I want to make it clear that this Zep product is a concentrate and needs to be diluted.  We diluted 6 oz of Zep All-in-1 Premium Pressure Washing Concentrate into a gallon of water (1:20).  For a really tough job you can go up to a 1:5 concentration but never go full strength. …and YES I put a heart around my hubby’s “Sarah” tattoo.  = )

That solution goes right into your pressure washing machine.  Turn on the water and power up your pressure washer.  Aim and fire!  A foamy spray will come out.  Use long strokes to push the dirt and grime off the sides of your object.  Once you have washed your area thoroughly, allow it to sit for 5 minutes to penetrate.

Switch over to the high pressure (water only) attachment and spray off your now clean area.  Note that if you have a lot of nearby plants, you want to saturate them with water prior to the Zep washing… this way they won’t absorb the chemicals.

While I was over there, I used the high pressure nozzle to blast away the dead citrus tree leaves from the rocks… those are so hard to get out of there but now I know how to get rid of them, while adding water to 64 Citrus Lane!  Now someone has to go pick them all up by the wall… sounds like a great job for my daughter!

A pressure washer isn’t just for the big jobs.  It can tackle the little ones too like all that chalk art defacing decorating your patios.  Now with the weather so nice, your kids are probably out every day doodling like mine, which is more difficult to get up sometimes than one would think.  The added pressure + Zep Commercial All-in-1 Premium Pressure Washing Concentrate gets up even the most saturated chalk in seconds and leaves behind super clean concrete/tile.  Love.
