Peppa Pig was one of the first preschool-aged shows I actually liked. The lovable characters with their charming British accent was an immediate hit with my daughter as well. There are always great lessons to be learned and their quirky antics were unique and fresh for Nick Jr.
This fall, for the first time ever, Peppa Pig products were introduced to the US market. Beyond DVDs, there is a Christmas book and a line of really adorable toys for preschoolers. Within the line of toys (attention: Christmas shoppers) are playhouses, treehouses, tea sets, play figures and plush… all quality made by Fisher-Price.
We just launched our 24 Days of Christmas Books series, which is our holiday book recommendations for this year. Peppa Pig and the Lost Christmas List definitely works well for the collection, and I’m adding it to ours! This festive book begins with Peppa, brother George and friends sharing what they all are asking for for Christmas. These written wishes are headed to the North Pole for Santa’s consideration. So far, so good. The story continues with a trip to the tree farm where Daddy Pig finds the biggest candidate possible and hauls it home. The family of pigs decorate and sing and set out Santa’s goodies for the night. As luck would have it, Santa has a bit of a mishap with the townspeople ‘s list due to the blustery wind in England. Oh, Santa. But the ever-helpful Peppa is here to save Christmas. Cute book with lots of holiday tradition and cheer.
I mentioned before there are a few really great toys for preschoolers, and there are. Really perfect for the holidays, check out the Playhouse, the treehouse, the schoolhouse, the car and the tea set… all quite lovely. I can’t get enough of the Hug ‘n Oink Peppa, which is a generously-sized plush just begging to be squeezed. In true Peppa form, this plush giggles, talks and snorts when you hug her, a very pleasant surprise for my daughter that has yet to not make her crack up.
Also available now are two DVDs filled with Peppa Pig episodes: Muddy Puddles and Other Stories and Flying A Kite and Other Stories. Both are 60 minutues long, containing 10 “peppasodes” that your child already adores. These and the aforementioned toys can all be found at Toys-R-Us, perfect for the holiday season!
