out of town bath routines {and soapy updos}

I used JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo in my out of town toddler bath routine as part of a sponsored post for Socialstars #johnsonspartners #SoMuchMore

Taking your toddler out of town can be stressful as they rely on routines.  Sleep schedule disruptions can be the worst and we all know how crazy an overtired toddler can be!  One simple tip is to pack your toddler’s shampoo and body wash from home.  Bring a favorite toy, a towel, things that make bath time familiar.  Familiar scents and items relax us, make us feel more comfortable and safe.  Pull off a relaxing bath time at the end of the day and you have set the whole family up for a great night’s sleep!

Yesterday morning Savannah and I are went whale watching (yeay!) so the whole family stayed in a hotel in Newport Beach.  I’m not a morning person so the idea of driving any more than 5 miles at 8:30 AM on a Sunday morning sounded ludicrous.  Hey, any excuse to book a beachside hotel, right!?  The day before whale watching, we spent the afternoon at the beach digging our toes in the sand and splashing in the frigid Pacific Ocean, which was just what I needed.  A break from it all!  Whale watching was amazing – the look on my 8 year old’s face when every creature came by – the grey whales with calves, the bottlenose dolphins and the seals with their pups, it was great.

After a day at the beach and back at the hotel, Gabers was in desperate need of a bath.  His hair – sandy.  His skin – sweaty.  Luckily, I remembered to pack JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo so there were no tears during our little getaway.  Many shampoos, including those found in hotel rooms, are irritating to a toddler’s delicate skin and eyes.  I’m not about to risk tears so the newly improved JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo has a unique NO MORE TEARS® formula.

Bath time is so much more than just getting clean.  On vacation, bath time keeps the routine of home and relaxes wound up toddlers who had a full day of play.  Gabriel isn’t the type to just sleep anywhere, especially somewhere new, so any soothing ritual is much appreciated.

When bath time is late at night, it kind of takes on a different mood.  Typically, Gabriel is pretty wild in the tub.  He plays hard and never leaves a bathroom floor dry.  After a long day and right at/after bedtime, a bath is much calmer – perfect for lulling a tiny tot to sleep – well we wouldn’t want him to actually fall asleep IN the tub, but you get what I’m saying.  I dimmed the lights and spoke softly, trickling water down his hair and back.  ahhhh.  He was so calm he even let me pile on a shampoo hairdo.

This would have been cuter had we not buzzed off his mullet recently! I used to absolutely love making soap unicorn horns with my daughter’s long locks.  She gave me a lot more to work with but no matter how bald, a baby with a fancy or funny shampoo hairdo is always adorable!

We consistently use the same JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo so the scent provides a touch of home while away.  It is enriched with conditioners perfect for baby/toddler extra delicate hair.  Out of the bath I gave Gabriel his lotion massage, another calming and familiar scent for him.  In to the hotel sofabed he went and he looked so peaceful.  Worn out from a long day of excitement, relaxed from a warm JOHNSON’S® bath, his eyes quickly grew heavy and he slipped off into a peaceful sleep… right next to his big sis.  How sweet!!
