Over the summer, neem oil became a reccurring theme in my life. I’d never heard of the plant before and suddenly it was recommended by a trusted friend and a knowledgable relative as a great treatment for hair and skin; grown-ups and kids. So, naturally, I checked it out… Neem trees are native to India, where they have used the extract in beauty products for thousands of years. The fruit of the tree looks similar to an olive, with one seed inside. Inside the seed are one or more kernels ~ those are the little guys that are pressed, producing an extract which is then purified. The result is an oil rich in antioxidants, with antibacterial properties, great for sensitive and problem skin. The oil has so many uses, neem is referred to as the “Village Pharmacy” in India!
Online I went, to research more on its benefits and to look for new and exciting products. As fate (aka Google) would have it, I was led to Theraneem by Organix South. From Organix informative website, I learned even more benefits of this wonderful plant. Turns out, all those antioxidants help protect the skin from free radicals caused by over-exposure to sun, environmental toxins and other damaging elements. ”Neem oil also contains high levels of fatty acids that soak in quickly to soothe and nourish even chronically dry and itchy skin.” All good news for my ultra sensitive skin and damaged hair!
This extensive product line nourishes from head to toe with oil, cream, lotion, bodywash, bar soap, shampoo, and conditioner. But that is not all–Theraneem makes supplements and oral care as well. The mouthwash is my new favorite, and I have tried many. It has a refreshing mint flavor and leaves me feeling like my mouth is truly clean. In fact, Ayurvedic Medicine has for years utilized neem to maintain, soothe, and protect healthy teeth and gums. Modern science has more recently agreed upon its benefits.
And wait, what–Organic kids soap and shampoo/body wash made with Neem??? The only two people I know with more delicate complexions than myself, are my little cuties. They loved the natural, non-tutti frutti scent, which reminds my oldest of autumn. The kid’s conditioner left my daughters’ hair tangle free ~ no more heavy adult conditioner to get that job done.
Good for you inside and out, Theraneem offers products for the whole family, including men’s lotion and even pet care. Don’t forget about Fido! Neem is also known to be a natural insect repellant; regularly used in the garden. As a mosquito magnet, I eagerly tried the outdoor herbal spray. Bugs don’t like it, but I sure do!
