I absolutely adore their Cushion Covers. The Surya Pale Green pillow is 16×16 and made of raw silk and cotton. If you look closely at the stitching, you’ll see the small grain-like ‘dana’ stitches with mirrors sewn inside of them. This gorgeous pillow of the rising sun is created on a ‘pakko’-embroidered cover. This pillow is absolutely breathtaking. I brought the pillows over to my parents house on Father’s day and everyone was gawking over these pillows. There are absolutely zero imperfections. They absolutely catch your eye and bring that pop to every room as an accent.
The orange pillow is called Checkmate Rust. This is made in the ahir style of embroidery, where the outlines of the design are done in a labor intensive chain stitch called sankali. The reasoning for creating this chain stitch is to give the pattern a uniform appearance. Just like the green pillow, this is created on raw silk and cotton with mirror-work also embroidered into the embroidery, which you can see in the photos.
You’ll love looking through all of the gorgeous pillow covers. You’ll find mirror-work, embroidery and a variety of vibrant colors. If you would like to read more about the women artisans of Shrujan who create these works of art, please click here.
