interactive 3D puzzles with app game {Popar}

My daughter has taken over the iProducts in my home.  I have this vague memory of the iPad being my birthday present one year…very, very vague. I rarely touch it anymore!  With an overflowing list of installed kids apps, I have to be picky about the new apps that my daughter downloads.  It seems everywhere you look, there’s an app attached to everything.  Sometimes it enhances the product, sometimes it doesn’t, and sometimes it just distracts and annoys (no, usually).  One company doing it right is Popar and their 3D Interactive Puzzles, sent for review.

Popar 3D Interactive Puzzles come in seven different kid-friendly topics: basketball, football, soccer, construction, picnic, planets, princess.  For ages six and up, they come in 100 and 300 pieces.  I chose to try out two I know my daughter would love, princess (obviously) and planets.  I homeschool my 1st grader so I am always eager to find anything remotely educational, especially when it comes to fun games like puzzles.

The first puzzle I put together with my daughter was the princess themed, which was only 100 pieces.  My 6 year old daughter finished the Princess Interactive 3D Puzzle on her own, which was pretty impressive to mom.  She went as fast as she could, so excited to try out the app part of the puzzle. Look at those bright, girly colors and super fun graphics!

The app that pairs with the Popar 3D Interactive Puzzles is of the augmented reality variety.  This means you will see the puzzle before you, like you would if you were taking a picture, but there is also an overlay, in this case, a princess who dances!  It is very, very cool, I admit.  The princess app has two parts.  First you can customize and accessorize your princess…change her hair, her dress, her features.  That alone made my 6 year old very happy.  Once you have your princess designed and dressed, you head over to “play” where the princess will twirl all over your puzzle!

My daughter lost her mind when her little brother started crawling over to her puzzle and came into view on the app.  All of a sudden her little bro was the giant monster coming to tear down the castle and capture the princess.  She was laughing so hard she couldn’t breathe!

The next we put together was the Popar Planets Interactive 3D Puzzle, a really awesome one for kids interested in the solar system.  It is 300 pieces and my daughter needed me to help with this one.  We finished it in two afternoons (after one giant redo from dad bonking into it).  The colors are vibrant and really quite beautiful.  The solar system is in the middle, the planets all orbiting around a brilliant reddish sun.  Around the edges are the planets again with great descriptions, as well as other notable space items: satellites, stars, ol’ dwarf planet Pluto, etc.

To bring the puzzle to life, download the coordinating app which allows your kids to play games while pointing at the puzzle (augmented reality). This one is an action game boys, girls and parents can play – Missle Defend AR.  Here is my daughter losing big time because mom needed a photo:

I thought this puzzle was so great, and would better serve us put together, I Mod-Podged over the finished puzzle with my favorite matte.  We framed and hung it up in the office (also our homeschool classroom).  This is an easy way to keep a puzzle forever, works for kids room art or, in this case, classroom decoration and teaching tool!
