2 juices for immunity: beets, fresh turmeric, carrots, oh my!

With the cold and flu season ahead, it is smart to start loading up now with immunity-boosting nutrients.  Those with kiddos know this is such a risky time with kids in school – the littler germ spreaders that they are!  An easy way to add in bonus vitamins and minerals is through juicing.  Today we are cashing in on some immunity-building super powers like turmeric, carrots, beets, ginger, oranges, mangoes (and a secret shhhh ingredient).

My, what big beets I have!  It is beet season now that we are in fall and the beets just keep getting bigger at my local farmer’s markets.  Beets are my 2nd favorite thing to juice as they really produce a ton of liquid and are PACKED with nutrition.  Beets are detoxifying (cleanse blood and liver), immunity-boosting; they fight inflammation, lower blood pressure and have anti-cancer properties.  I cannot say enough about beets!!  If you don’t like to eat them whole, fine – just juice them!  They have a great, earthy flavor that you can balance with something sweet like a mango!

Everyone loves the mango.  For this juice, I decided to also add ginger, another medicinal powerhouse.  It is traditionally known for it’s digestive help, but it is also great for preventing and treating the sickies (<– fancy doctor word).

Onto our next immunity boosting juice – carrots, oranges and fresh turmeric.  I’m sure it is no surprise to you that carrots and oranges have big benefits for fending off the sickies, but really, turmeric is the star here.  Turmeric is an incredible natural resource we have for fighting ongoing and future disease.  I use turmeric because of its health benefits (anti-inflammatory, cancer-fighting, Alzheimer’s-preventing, among others) and add the rhizome in both fresh and dried forms to everything I eat.

We should head to the juicer.

These two juices are all about immunity-boosting ingredients.  I’ve sourced some of the best you can grow, but I’ve also added my favorite supplement – Emergen-C featuring essential nutrients – including 1,000 mg of vitamin C and other immune supporting antioxidants zinc and manganese, 7 B vitamins to enhance energy naturally, and electrolytes.

Beet Mango and Ginger Juice

  • 2 beets, quartered
  • 1 mango, cored and chopped
  • 3 inch knob of ginger
  • 1 packet Emergen-C Super Orange
  1. Juice beets, mango and ginger into a glass.  Add Emergen-C and stir.  Drink immediately.

 

Carrot Orange Turmeric Juice

  • 4 carrots, chopped
  • 2 oranges, peeled
  • 3 inch knob of fresh turmeric
  • 1 packet Emergen-C Super Orange
  1. Juice carrots, oranges and turmeric into a glass.  Add Emergen-C and stir.  Drink immediately.
