hydration powerful enough for Bikram Yoga {DripDrop}

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group® and DripDrop®, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #DrinkDripDrop #DripDropHydrates http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

For some reason lately, I haven’t been able to get into my usual quick daily workouts.  For years I have been a Beachbody maniac beginning with P90X, then P90X2, then Insanity, then T25.  I have been meaning to buy Insanity Max:30… but I just haven’t been able to pull the trigger.  I’m not sure why I cannot commit these days.

What I HAVE been doing is a lot of hiking and also bouncing around local classes like spinning, pilates and, my favorite — Bikram Yoga.  This is a new workout routine for me, very unorganized, but it’s working fine and I’m happy.  Maybe I just am the type to not crave structure.

I first began doing regular yoga through P90X.  My husband and I did it together once a week for an hour and a half (back before child #2 clearly) and it was pure luxury.  We would turn the lights down, light candles and breathe.  We both fell in love and saw how transformative yoga truly can be.  Life began getting in the way of our long yoga sessions and they began tapering off.  I found myself saying “I don’t have time for yoga this week” quite often until it became non-existent.

Moving cities was a big player in the disruption of our workout schedule, as was my high-risk pregnancy, but when we moved back to our beloved Palm Springs, I found a Bikram Yoga class.  It was just what I needed.

I was craving a massive sweat.

I was craving a focus-driven workout and I was in desperate need of a deep breath.

So I took my inflexible self to class and went for it.  It was difficult getting back into yoga, especially at an accelerated level, but  eventually I found my groove and I began pouring sweat.  Bikram Yoga is a mental, physical and spiritual workout – it takes 100% of you.  You have to leave life at the door.

Bikram Yoga is done in a room heated to 104 °F and generally with a raised humidity.  The heat warms your muscles, allowing you to really push yourself without injury.  The heat also detoxes your body by encouraging the flush of toxins.  It is a series of 26 postures (asanas) and two breathing exercises (pranayamas) that are demanding but doable for anyone.  After regular classes, you will not only see an incredible improvement in flexibility but also all over strength.

It is pretty obvious that you literally dump sweat in a Bikram Yoga class. It is hot and you are working very hard to keep your poses and push further.  Puddles are not uncommon.  Hydration is KEY to any workout but especially one like Bikram.  It is important to be as hydrated as possible before you begin and then refuel afterwards as well.  Water may not be enough…

When I first heard the term “hydration powder” my mind started to spin.  Those two words just don’t go together — but then I realized it is like a sports drink powder…on steroids.  DripDrop is a powder that delivers 2-3 times the electrolytes of sports drinks and 25% more than pediatric alternatives.  It has half the calories of sports drinks and hydrates 34% better than water alone.  It is medical grade, so grab a box if anyone in your family catches the flu or a nasty case of food poisoning.  It is used in leading hospitals and by pediatricians so it is great for sick kids over a year old!

Electrolytes are simply minerals in your blood that carry an electrical charge.  They affect major aspects of your body like the pH of your blood, muscle function, blood pressure control and the amount of water in the body, just to name a few.  A proper ratio of sodium (electrolyte) sugars and water is the key to rehydration and DripDrop has it nailed down.

To use, pour one packet into 8 oz of water- shake or stir to dissolve.  Pretty simple.  The packet form makes them travel-friendly, perfect for outdoor exercisers and jet-setters.  It comes in two flavors: lemon and berry.  I have only tried the lemon because I am a citrus maniac and it tastes AWESOME!  Added to water, it is so refreshing and so yummy, the perfect workout prep and recovery drink.  I used to get pretty bad headaches after yoga class, just a dehydration issue, but I certainly haven’t as of late!

DripDrop can be found at CVS in the baby aisle.  Use this $1.00 off coupon with the purchase of any ONE (1) box of DripDrop Hydration Powder available 1/25/15 – 2/21/15 (while supplies last).
