“Busy” has taken on a new meaning since we added another babe to the family. There is a decent age difference between the two so they have very different schedules, and they don’t always work together (okay, never). We live far away from family so there is no dropping off the kids, meaning they are always with us whether they need to be or not, also meaning I always carry snacks. My diaper bag pockets are stuffed, usually with processed crackers and fruit snacks. BooginHead’s Squeez’Ems offers me another option, a healthy, eco-friendly option for both of my kids.
When BooginHead offered to send some Squeez’Ems for us to try, my first thought was actually “smoothies on the go”. They are perfect for homemade baby food, a venture I am about to begin in the next month or so, but they are also great for older kids. My 6 year old is a huge fan of our smoothies, which makes me really really happy, and these are the perfect vessels for them.
Since Squeez’Ems are freezer safe, I like to make a full carafe of a smoothie my daughter enjoys, separate them into the pouches (leaving a little room for expansion) and freeze. We live in Southern California, so the pouches will begin to thaw while we are out, perfect for a healthy snack on the go. They are also great for school lunches, think homemade apple sauces, purees and yogurt. And if you freeze them, you have instant ice packs — a multi-tasker!
I was surprised to hear these pouches are also microwave safe, great for a baby food better served warm. Make sure to leave the lid open. They are also top rack dishwasher safe, and they do come clean, another surprising fact considering the pouch is just one part. If you do not have a dishwasher, you have the option to fill with soapy water and shake.
What really impresses me about the Squeez’Ems is the design. We have other reusable baby food pouches, and as far as I’m concerned, anything creating less waste is an improvement. However, these particular pouches are a bit superior to the others in function. They offer a good amount of control, even for spastic toddlers. This means there is zero mess. No leaks, no overzealous squeezer splatters, and because of that, they are great in the car.
Purchase a two pack for $7.99 at BooginHead, a real money saver when you consider the alternative: expensive, throwaway food pouches. BPA, PVC & Phthalate Free
