organic superfoods for babies {Happy Family} + giveaway
My 8 month old’s taste buds have been much happier these days as we venture through the world of first foods: purees, puffs and fingerfoods. He particularly loves the organic baby snacks from Happy Family: Happy Puffs, Happy Munchies and Happy Creamies, sent for review… and a few other yummy products.
The first brand of puffs we tried, I had a couple complaints. Mostly, they dissolved too quickly and became sticky messes instantly. It was hard for my son to effectively snack because they were stuck all over him! Texture-wise, the puffs from Happy Family are somewhere in between those and hard Cheerios (which I’m not ready to attempt yet). The flavors are awesome, organic whole grains sweetened with 100% fruit juice and include 25mg of Choline per serving to enhance eye and brain development. When I pull the canisters out of the pantry or diaper bag, Gabriel goes wild! We’ve tried Happy Puffs in purple carrot & blueberry, banana and sweet potato varieties… Gabe doesn’t play favorites here.
My son also loves the Happy Munchies rice cakes, in apple and carrot flavors. I like these better than the puffs for on-the-go because they take longer to eat and are easier for my baby to hold. I couldn’t find them at my local Target, but Happy Munchies Rice Cakes also come in blueberry & beet… must find! These cakes are whole grain brown rice, sweetened with fruit juice – no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. They don’t make much mess, which I love. Quite possibly, the perfect finger food.
I make about 70% of my son’s baby food myself. Partially to save money, partially to encourage super fresh eating and partially because I find it so relaxing… something about the process that makes me content. But, on-the-go is much easier with pouches and Happy Family has some really wonderful, fresh-tasting foods. We recently branched out into proteins and thicker, heartier meals (stage 3). My son is still transitioning into the thicker texture and makes some pretty funny faces… he loves them though and don’t you dare try and take them away!
From Happy Family, we tried Happy Baby Stage 3 meals in: Gobble Gobble (organic turkey, vegetables & quinoa) and Chick Chick (organic chicken, vegetables & quinoa). What I like about the stage 3 foods is that they keep my son fuller for longer. I can really notice the difference so I make sure to give him one later at night to help him sleep through the night.
Happy Bellies brown rice baby cereal is the perfect first solid food, way better than other brands. It is the first baby cereal to offer pre & probiotics, which support immune function. It is also the only organic cereal that has Choline in it, which helps support brain development. To me, the other cereals don’t bring much as far as nutrition goes. Of course, Happy Bellies also contains DHA, iron and essential vitamins and minerals. Mix the cereal with breastmilk and feed as a first solid – I also add cereal to thin purees to thicken them up.
Also new to my babe is yogurt. The Stage 2 Greek Yogurts are so yum… definitely Gabriel’s favorite meal. He moans and “yummmmm”s through the whole pouch every time. We tried Happy Baby Greek Yogurt in strawberry, apple & beet as well as zucchini, pear & kale. This is his first dairy and I was kinda nervous about it. I’ve been cutting dairy out of my life (no cow’s milk for anyone in my family) for digestion issues and, really, it’s just unnecessary. Happy Baby Greek Yogurts are gentle dairy and Gabe had no issues processing them… I’m super happy these also come in Happy Tot form for toddlers.
How could I forget my babe’s favorite snack? Happy Creamies, baby’s first veggie & fruit snack, is a big hit around here. They are 50% veggies, contain probiotics and the ever-so-yum coconut milk. The only flavor we have tried so far is apple, spinach, pea & kiwi but they also come in strawberry, raspberry & carrot and carrot, mango & orange. You know I love these for my son because they offer probiotics yet are dairy free! Yeay!
Find these organic yumyums in major retailers near you — I found all of these at Target. I’m all about the Happy Baby line but will be branching into Happy Tot before too long and there are also products for kids and adults! Keep in the know by liking Happy Family on Facebook.
