The Halloween Stories Collection, Vol 2 {Scholastic}

These days what my daughter says is 99% about Halloween.  1% Christmas.  So you know she was excited to see a new Halloween Scholastic Storybook Treasures collection arrive for review.  As my daughter’s vocabulary increases, so does her love for these DVDs.  She loves to watch the words highlight across the screen, and I love that it helps reinforce literacy skills.

The Halloween Stories Collection, Vol 2 includes 14 stories for early readers all with the Halloween spirit:

  • The Day Of The Dead… and more Halloween Tales – The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything, Kitten’s First Full Moon, Fletcher and the Falling Leaves
  • Dem Bones… and more Sing-Along Stories – Dinosaur Bones, Hush Little Baby, The Fox Went Out on a Chilly Night, The Erie Canal
  • Teeny-Tiny and the Witch-Woman…and more Spooky Stories – The Boy with Two Shadows, Los Gatos Black on Halloween, What’s Under My Bed?, King of the Cats

My daughter loves to hear about The Day of the Dead, so we started watching that disc first.  Kids learn neat facts about the Latin American holiday – sugar skulls, Pan de Muertos and other fun traditions.  Now my daughter is determined to bring some of her favorite facets of the holiday into our American Halloween – and I love that.

Dem Bones is a super fun disc with sing-along classics and music appreciation. The title song is awesome and teaches kids about the bones that make up a human skeleton.  This is a story that my daughter outs on repeat because she is trying to learn the whole song.  Dem bones, dem bones, dem dry bones!

So last we watched Teeny-Tiny and the Witch-Woman and the other spooky stories.  My daughter was legit terrified of the title story, featuring a very creepy narrator voice (even to me) and warty witch animations.  There are also old lady hands in the beginning and end that really got her spooked. I don’t think she will be watching that story again to avoid nightmares, but the rest are fun spooky and she loved them.  She really liked Los Gatos Black on Halloween and while she seemed a bit freaked out, she asked to watch that one again and again.

The Halloween Stories Collection, Vol 2 will release on October 15 for $24.95.  It has a runtime of approx. 90 minutes.  Lots of fun All Hallows Eve stories, great for little kids to get in the spirit of the season.  Purchase at
