the little wonders of Lilliputiens { HABA }
I’ve entered a happy stage where my newborn can now be fully entertained by his big sister. It’s a win-win for everyone as my daughter enjoys his company just as much as he does hers. So as I browse the baby market, I take special note of interactive toys both kids can enjoy. A favorite in my house? Puppets! New from Lilliputiens is the Wolf Handpuppet & Three Little Pigs puppet set, and that is exactly what I was sent for review.
Once upon a time, in a land far away named Belgium, five mothers came together to form a line of fairytale rattles, puppets and squeakers… and they were called, Lilliputiens. HABA is now the proud (and exclusive) US distributor of this fantastical line, and us Northern Americans are mighty grateful. Lilliputiens are known for their quality, handmade plush that inspire creativity and interactive play. It seems they also incorporate a good amount of well known characters into the mix, like The Three Little Pigs and one Big, Bad Wolf.
My 3 month old son just had surgery so he is a bit out of commission. While he is not up for much, he still needs to be entertained, a perfect time to put the Lilliputiens puppets to work. My six year old is a major ham, a true Angeleno. She loves nothing more than to put on a show for anyone (be it human or not) puppets being a real favorite medium for her. She happens to love the old as time itself story of The Three Little Pigs…probably because she gets to huff and puff.
In the Wolf Handpuppet & Three Little Pigs set there is a large wolf hand puppet, three little piggie finger puppets, and three coordinating houses, tee-pee style. The best part about this set is that it sets the stage completely for your kids. You have the main characters and you have the important landscape pieces (i.e. houses).
The village. Lego flower not included.
Piggies in finger puppet form
In a story such as The Three Little Pigs, it is important that the protagonist not be too scary. Kids certainly enjoy a bit of drama, but no one wins when the kids have nightmares. In this puppet set, the Big Bad Wolf is significantly larger than the pigs but is actually quite adorable looking. I love the patchy and quirky outfit he dons as well… what a nice hand-sewn touch. You can always tell when kids toys are high end; all you have to do is pay attention to the details. High end toys, meaning they will last forever, always have a lot of detail and you can see the thought behind each decision.
The Big, Bad Wolf is really quite sweet…
until he eats the Piggies!
Loved by my 3 month old and my 6 year old, the ideal age for this set is, well anywhere between those ages. I really also love this set simply as a decor item, as I keep them on a shelf in my newborn’s nursery. That is how beautifully designed and crafted this puppet set is. Great for multiple kids or as a way for mom to entertain her baby, I fully recommend this to every family with little kiddies.
HABA always has the most amazing quality standards. I have owned quite a few toys and decor items from HABA over the past six years, and never once did I have an issue. My daughter has outgrown every toy before any wear became apparent. That’s saying something because kids are rough on their things. So any brand that HABA stands behind, such as Lilliputiens, I support. I know they would not do so unless they found the quality up to their very high standards.

These are too stinkin’ adorable! We have a set of these too – A momma chick, who has a big egg filled with baby chicks that she can “sit” on. Abby absolutely adores it! I love the mix of sensory stimulators – textures, sounds, shapes, and colors. And it’s super well made… And of course, so so cute :)
Haba has adorable items! I love them and think something like this would be a perfect gift for our 3.0. But I also know my 3 & 5 year olds would love them as well!
