I admit that I am a little rough around the edges. That being said, I am not always very gentle with my things (children excluded of course). Last year, when I purchased this MacBook I type from, I was in love. I still am, but that didn’t stop me from tossing it into my oversized leather handbag with a bunch of books and other scratchy items. Luckily the damage was minimal, and I found a solution that I feel really good about.
GreenSmart has made me think of the term “plastic bags” in a whole new way. No, I’m not storing my laptop in a giant ziplock! These brilliant bags and sleeves are made of 100% post consumer PET plastic bottles. These are beautifully crafted bags with a past ~ and a conscience. Don’t worry, GreenSmart bags don’t feel like plastic. They are manufactured by grinding the water bottles into PET flakes. These are sorted and only the finest of flakes make the cut to be further ground into PET powder. The powder is then processed into fibers which can be woven into yarn! The resulting fabric is Neogreene ~ GreenSmart’s eco-friendlier answer to neoprene, which explains why their products feel similar to a wetsuit and why they are completely waterproof from the outside. I don’t know about you, but my mind is blown!
Even more mind blowing are the clever designs GreenSmart has created. Sleeves are available in 13″,
15″, 17″, and Netbook specific sizes. Of course for us Mac lovers, there are also 13″ and 15″ MacBook sleeves. I am loving the look and feel of the textured Saola sleeve. GreenSmart’s newest line has visual and tactile appeal ~ covered in bumps or ridges. These protective covers provide charger access, have great ventilation and soft lining to keep your computer cozy, cool, and safe.
Not only is GreenSmart saving the planet one bottle at a time, but they are surely saving me from my history of achey shoulders from my aforementioned overloaded shoulder-bag! The ergonomic Mandrill backpack (made of 40 plastic bottles) provides a cushy little nest for a laptop to rest against your back ~ I feel the computer is actually helping my posture in this position!
I lug my computer with me everywhere. Between studying and writing, I need to fit in a session whenever possible ~ these bags are perfect for travel, near or far. There are several handy compartments for all of your other goodies and even a little zipper on the nicely padded straps to keep your cash close at hand.
Consider this: In the US alone we use 230 plastic bottles per person per year. Many of these recyclables end up in landfills, where they never biodegrade.
