Graveyard Cookie Cupcakes {Halloween}
This whole recipe came about when I stepped foot into the always delightful World Market. No, this isn’t a post sponsored by the store, just a shout out from me to them. So inside I found all of these wonderful Dia De Los Muertos decorations and I went a little crazy… then I spotted these napkins saying “BOO Ya’ll” ummm… okay, my Virginia roots are jumping for Southern joy. Then, I saw a container of Bloody Bones Treat Toppers. I knew they would be the star of my next Halloween desert. This one is so good, I may just give up trying to top myself.
The bones (lol, pun) of this recipe were inspired by Kevin and Amanda’s Chocolate Chip Lava Cookies. Do you read this blog? It is one of my favorites and you MUST follow them.
Since the recipe is a direct copy, I thought it was best blogger etiquette to make you go over to Kevin and Amanda for the instructions. I did make a couple modifications, in that I used semi-sweet chocolate chunks (Nestle kind look the most like grave stones) and Bloody Bones found at World Market.
Graveyard Cookie Cupcakes
Ingredients
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups (210 grams) all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 (11.5 oz) bag semi-sweet chocolate chunks (Nestle version looks the most like gravestones)
1 World Market Bloody Bones
For instructions, head over to Kevin and Amanda blog.
So where do the bones go? In the melted chocolate filling…
and on top. The bones will melt in the oven heat but I like the gooey guts look they give. When the cakes are done, pop a few new bones in where the others have melted. I think it gives an extra bloody look to them!
The Graveyard Cookie Cupcakes are perfect for the Halloween parties happening this week and lend well to a great tablescape. Decorate the treats with stray bones, a little spider web… maybe some fake blood! Spooky!
When you slice open the cakes, the center will be gooey but not runny and the bones you added will give a great decomposing aesthetic… all bone marrowy and bloody. They also have a cherry flavor that is delightful.
These cakes are very rich — one will do you right. Slice, stack and top with a Jolly Roger appetizer pick. Pretty, right?
Enjoy and Happy Halloween!!
